Robert Pattinson Blames Kristen Stewart's Rape-Comment Controversy on the Media-photo

Hey, remember how Kristen Stewart compared being photographed by the paparazzi to being raped? And then several women's groups were all like, "Well, that seems a tad inappropriate"? And then even Kristen herself realized the error of her words?

Yeah, well Stewart's Twilight co-star and rumored boyfriend, Robert Pattinson, has a different take on the whole brouhaha.

In a recent interview, R-Pattz asserted that it's the mean old blogosphere's fault that people got so upset by K-Stew's choice of words. Yeah, really.

According to Pattinson,

“None of those associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first—who were doing it specifically to get hits on their websites. That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone. All they need is to get a salacious headline and people click on it, because it’s easy.”

Hmm; we suppose that Rob gets points for gallantry for sticking by his lady, but as long as he's talking accountability, doesn't he think that the primary responsibility resides with K-Stew for making the comparison in the first place?

Hit us up in the comments section and share your thoughts: Do you think Stewart's "rape" comments were offensive, or are people making a big stink out of nothing?

And make sure to check out The Forks Report for all things Twilight-related.

Sweetie, I've been raped and god knows what else in my life time. I don't think Kristen was out of context, she was using a metaphor. What ever happened to free speech? We can have idiots trying to take away planned parenthood in SUPPORT OF YOUR RIGHTS, and have many supporters by it, but we are instead caring way too much about what a pathetic blogger is bitching about. Seriously, do yourself get an education and understand the facts first, before going and hating on people. Thanks.

I still can't believe that she had to apologize in the first place and get what she meant with the comment. She simply tried to relate how she FEELS when surrounded by people screaming her name, snapping her picture, the flashes and the chaos without any means of escape. To a private, shy person, it's something that makes her feel vulnerable, scared and violated. So what if rape isn't the right word, it's what came to her mind and no intelligent person could think she really thought getting her picture taken is the equivalent of rape. It's supposed to be a free country and is, so long as you don't piss off any of the millions of groups or people around the world. Ridiculous and saying that the blogs aren't looking for readers with shocking headlines is even more so. Look at how they all twist the same story trying to make it seem fresh and new.

i'll be very happy for those two if they ever get to be together in public like normal people. what he said is true. frankly, everything negative to do with kristen stewart tends to stem back to perez hilton - and he takes responsibility for nothing, including miley's vag. let it go. i'd have said "rape" too.

God,i love that guy!The way he corrected that was very right on and fair and he was prepared to defend her. This was lazy bloggers on the internet who couldn't find a recent sexscandal to write about.I thought it was a good way to describe papparazzi attention. It's very embarrasing when they are constantly followed around and to them it has to feel like that.I love how they stand up for each other:D.She could have watched what she said so she didn't cause this but i think by now she doesn't give a crap.Maybe she oone of those people who believes there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Truth: You're mad he called you people nerds behind computer screens. Don't lie. HA! But like has been said you are quoting out of context so you can just spread more hate. He is so right. LMFAO SOOOOOO TRUE.

Oh come on! it's metaphoric. everyone knows the usw of it,right? or are you also attacking people who say "love is war/a battlefield", because in war people are dying and it's terrible? no.nobody does. rape is appalling and destructive - but if "fame"(hystery) destroys her emotional why isn't she allowed to use metaphors? Ok - some say "if you choose a acting career you should expect that" and I DON'T think that a 2year chase is what one should expect. seriously. it's not normal fame what she has - it's a gigantic mega hype which is out of control. why are all people so perverted about blaming her for things.

hey celebuzz can you work on your collective reading comprehension skills? Cause I read the whole excerpt, and Kristen TAKES responsibility again for misusing the word. Then the subject goes into the media's part in how the story blew up. And Robert THEN comments on the irresponsible way the media did handle it. Robert argues they simply used the story for hits, and he's right. Please don't act like any of you guys cared about the rape awareness aspect of the story. It was simply yet another "Kristen made a boo boo! A big one this time": story that was easy to report on for lazy bloggers and media outlets. Robert's quote is right. I totally agree with you. Great way to put it. The blogs and internet media just love to misunderstand the actors' statements. I wonder if they do it on purpose or if they are just plain stupid.

This article is completely idiotic. No one is going to side with you. By posting this, you've proven his entire point. The media takes statements out of context and then twists them for controversy and hits. He is completely correct.

No, I don't think the responsibility lies with Kristen. Had any other celeb said it, nothing would have happened. However, Kristen is at the eye of the storm. Anything with her name on it =$$$$ for the media. And the uglier that the media can make it look, the more $$$$ they can make. To make it short and sweet, Kristen was absolutely right, and the media raped her or it again, for money...and then made her apologize.

Rob is right. Rob is almost always right! The media always make things more than they are. Rob said "It's a little boring" about promoting Twilight and everyone blew what he said way out of proportion. As always.

I agree with Rob! The media is rude and all they want is a story not caring if their story hurts anyone. Get real! Look what you, the media, say about others! You talk about other people's private lives like crap. Isn't that as bad as what you are accusing Kristen of? What's right for one should be right for all!

Celebuzz, can't you not trying too hard to reveal yourself as one of the "media" according to Rob. Now it's too obvious that Rob is right, because his comment has again be blown out of proportion and taken out of context. oh how ironic~ you just turned yourself out

what the hell? she's only getting crap for this because she's famous, people use the word rape all the time for example "walmart raped me of money" or just kidding around too. People are getting to uptight.

NO, I dont think KS needed to apologize for her "rape" comment, anyone with COMMON SENSE new what she meant, the only offended were 1. The Rob obsessed haters who want KS head on a platter. 2. The blogs who want hits on the website. Rob is right! Even this article is an insult! YOU Just proved his point!

I think one should let sleeping dogs lie. Your publication is resurfacing this issue which has been dealt with in depth. Perhaps you too are looking for hits on your site? (Hmmm?) For what it is worth though I tend to agree with Robert's statement... I personally have often used the statement that I feel like a given day has "raped me of my time" and I know I have no leanings towards the putting down of any "Rape support organization". However if someone in the media got hold of the statement, they could ring organisations to get a rise and so the whole statement would be taken out of context and blown out of proportion (which is what happened with poor Kristen). Of course I am not famous so someone taking issue with my words would never arise! I think this world in which we live has gone 'Politically Correct' overboard and people need to build a bridge and move ON.

I think there is TOO much faux outrage nowadays. Kristen clearly said she should have used a different word. Rob is right on. Media thrives on controversy and will create it where they can. And speaking as a woman, I get really sick of the selective outrage of some "woman's groups".

The comments were offensive, but I think Rob is completely right in that the media blew it out of proportion. It could have just blown over but certain gossip sites (Perez) made extremely hateful and irrelevant comments which were mainly based, not on the original comment, but on their personal negative views of Kristen as a person.

  • Marisol

Took it out of context, Tim. Kristen says in the ENTIRE quote given by EW that she learned that "violated" as the right word to use, and talked about how it really upset her that this happened given her past roles that dealt with rape. You are ripping on Robert where there's not even a problem. Robert simply commented on the way bloggers just pounced on the story to demonize her and get hits in return. Why? Cause apparently Kristen's the kind of girl people love to hate. Just ask megan fox about such a phenomenon.
