Joan Rivers Wants Gays To Stay In The Closet
Joan Rivers may have just lost her chance at becoming a gay icon.
The outspoken comedian is stirring up controversy by urging young gay stars to stay in the closet. Her reason? It's bad for their careers if they are honest about their sexuality:
If you're going to be a romantic idol and try to get every teenage girl to love you, then you'd be an a** to come out and say you're gay. Ricky Martin was so smart. He did what he did, made his millions and then he said, 'Guess what, everybody? I'm gay...' It didn't matter anymore because he didn't have to bring in 16-year-old girls.
Hm, does Joan really know what 16-year-old girls want? Last time we checked plenty of girls seem to enjoy Adam Lambert's music even he's gay.

Joan, I have always loved your openiness, quirkness, etc. This is very disappointing. I am an avid Adam Lambert fan, and I think his courage speaks for itself. Please don't line up with the homophobes.

If we lived in a perfect world, everyone should be honest. But we don't. Imagine you're a talented young actor and you're gay. Not that it should matter, who cares? I wouldn't care if my favorite actor was gay. LOL, he probably is and I don't care, as long as he's happy and in love. Yet do producers care? Would they hire him for the next super mega Blockbuster in a straight role? No they wouldn't. He would only get gay characters. It's a bit of a limitation.... I think Joan Rivers is right. And that's a shame because it means we live in a crap world. Anyway, probably the best thing would be just to remain very private and say nothing about one's own sex life. It's private and it should remain so.
Why does homosexuality even matter like that? Love is between people, not what's in their pants, so it shouldn't matter what they do with what they got!
That is so incredibly stupid to say. I love Adam Lambert, ooh shocker, he's gay. Who gives a crap! If his music is nice, or if he's a nice person, then who cares about his sexual preferences. Besides, I think half of the world already knew that Ricky Martin was gay, but again, who cares. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that Americans are so against gay people. You should all just let it go. That would make life a lot easier.

Joan is out of touch. Not to mention this kind of comment is really unhelpful in encouraging performers to be honest about who they are. The more that artists can come out early in their careers, the less stigma there will be. And kudos to Adam Lambert, for being so brave. IMO Rickey Martin took the easier road.
