David Tennant to Play The Incredible Hulk in ‘The Avengers’?

Doctor WTF?

In one of the oddest casting rumors to come across the Internet in recent memory, the Los Angeles Times (by way of Digital Spy) is reporting that former Doctor Who actor David Tennant is in contention to play Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk in the upcoming Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers, which is slated for a May 2012 release.

Earlier this week, Marvel Studios announced that Edward Norton, who played the role of the big green rage addict in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, would not be reprising the role. Marvel added that they would be seeking an actor “who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members,” which already include Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.

According to sources, Marvel will be announcing a “name” actor to replace Norton during or before this year’s Comic-Con convention, which occurs in San Diego July 22-25.

Since news of Norton’s departure broke, a number of actors have been mentioned as possible replacements for Norton, including The Kids Are All Right actor Mark Ruffalo.

Do you think Tennant would make a credible Incredible Hulk? If not him, then who? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
