‘Twilight’ Star Edi Gathegi Lands ‘X-Men’ Role

Edi Gathegi is about to get mutated. The Twilight Saga actor, who played Laurent in Twilight and New Moon, has landed the role of Darwin in the upcoming X-Men: First Class, joining a cast that already includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Lucas Till and Kevin Bacon.

Gathegi’s character, Darwin, has the power of “reactive evolution,” allowing him to adapt to any situation or environment.

It was also recently announced that Skins actor Nicholas Hoult and Caleb Landry Jones have signed on for the film, as Beast and Banshee, respectively. Interestingly, it was recently reported that Gathegi’s New Moon co-star Taylor Lautner was up for a part in the film, but that turned out to be untrue.

X-Men: First Class begins filming in August for a June 3, 2011 release.
