'Bachelorette' Ali Fedotowsky's Classy Finale Breakup

It wasn’t the most dramatic rose ceremony ever, as promised by host  Chris Harrison, but last night’s big Bachelorette finale was a rare, classy moment for reality television.

Instead of allowing her second-choice man to pick out a free engagement ring, put on a suit and propose to her on a tropical bluff in Bora Bora, only to reject him moments later, ABC’s Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky dumped lovable landscaper Chris L. the day before the final rose ceremony, sparing him at least some of the humiliation - and torture - suffered by contestants past.

“I’m in love with somebody else,” Ali, a former Facebook exec, told a crestfallen Chris.

That "somebody" was the cleft-chinned, salsa-dancing Roberto, who charmed Ali with sweet nothings whispered in Spanish and make-out sessions in heart-shaped lagoons. He proposed and she accepted in a dreamy proposal on the previously mentioned bluff.

Chris, who Ali likened to a “teddy bear” that “loves to hug,” was no match -- but at least she gave him the luxury of early notice.

Past contestant and eventual Bachelor Jason Mesnick was down on a knee and about to stammer out a proposal when Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas helped him up -- and dumped him. A season earlier, Bachelor Brad Womack picked out a ring and flew DeAnna’s dad to the Bachelor mansion, only to give her the boot within sight of the final rose.

That sad history may explain why, in the midst of being dumped, Chris actually thanked Ali for doing it sooner rather than later.

“The fact that she told me before our date, before the rose ceremony... I could never thank her enough for that,” he said, (even as he prepared for a depressing plane ride from paradise back to Cape Cod, Mass.)

In a twist of fate not even a Bachelorette producer could concoct, a rainbow emerged overhead to remind Chris of his late mom, who had always encouraged him to put himself out there for love. It was a breakup so civil, so respectful and so rarely seen in this catfighting, hot-tubbing world of reality TV, we almost shed a tear.

What do you think of Ali's finale choice, and how she went about it? Give us your vote in the comments.

I am so thrill that they are together. They are made for each other from that start--there was so much the spark, chemistry, attraction whenever they were together. The first thing they do as soon as they see each other was kiss. My heart melts when I see them together. I wish them all the best.
