New Katy Perry Music: ‘Not Like the Movies’

So far in the run-up to the release of her new album Teenage Dream (out on August 24), Katy Perry has extolled the virtues of “California Gurls,” shared her vision of the “Teenage Dream,” and strutted like a “Peacock.” Oh, and she’s also revealed that her heavily religious parents speak in tongues.

Now the “I Kissed a Girl” songbird is breaking it down and showing her tender side on her new single, “Not Like the Movies,” which went on sale at iTunes today. A dainty, piano-driven ditty, the song finds Perry lamenting a relationship that doesn’t match up to the idealized depiction of romance as presented on the big screen. Sample lyrics:

“He put it on me, I put it on,
Like there was nothing wrong.
It didn’t fit,
It wasn’t right.
Wasn’t just the size.
They say you know,
When you know.
I don’t know.

I didn’t feel
The fairytale feeling, no.
Am I a stupid girl
For even dreaming that I could.”

Hopefully this isn’t a reflection of Perry’s upcoming nuptials to British funnyman Russell Brand. Either way, it’s highly likely the accompanying video won’t feature Perry shooting whipped cream from her bra.
