Report: Wyclef Jean to Run for President of Haiti
The upcoming presidential election in Haiti is about to get a big dose of star power. Former Fugees honcho and Haiti native Wyclef Jean will reportedly formally announce his bid to become his homeland's next president on Larry King Live on Thursday, CNN reports.
Jean has been a tireless proponent for Haiti for some time through his Yele Foundation, and was instrumental in getting relief to Haiti following January's devastating earthquake.
Though details are still sparse, Pierre Eric Jean-Jacques, former head of the country's Chamber of Deputies, tells the Associated Press that Jean will run under Jean-Jacques' Ansanm Nou Fo coalition. The coalition's name translates to "together we are strong" in Creole.
According to Jean-Jacques,
"Yes, we have an agreement (with Jean). But he's the one who has to announce it first."
Haiti's presidential election will be held on November 28.
