Swanky Salon Owner Charged With Defrauding Celebrities
Liv Tyler, Jennifer Aniston, Melanie Griffith, Anne Hathaway and Scott Speedman have all allegedly been duped by a Beverly Hills salon owner and esthetician, according to charges filed in the U.S. District Court. Official court documents state that a witness has accused Maria Gabriella Perez, owner of Chez Gabriela, of charging approximately $280,000 worth of fraudulent charges to the celebrities' credit cards during a one-year period. The amount may sound like a lot, but perhaps it's not so difficult to ring up such high totals when your "secret" face cream retails for $3,200.
Cher was also listed on the affidavit, but her rep claims she was not taken advantage of by the salon. According to Chez Gabriela's Web site, other celebrity clients included Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Kate Hudson, Salma Hayek, Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Nicole Richie, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker and many others.
Perez was arrested on the federal fraud charges, and was due to appear in court late Wednesday afternoon.
Celebuzz's calls to the salon for comment were not returned.
