Ken Jeong and Anneliese van der Pol Talk "Vampires Suck" at the Geek Awards

Ken Jeong and Anneliese van der Pol Talk

Celebuzz met up with Ken Jeong and Anneliese van der Pol at AOL's Geek Awards to discuss their new movie Vampires Suck, what they think about Twilight and what it means to be a geek.

Ken Jeong, also known as Dr. Ken because of his breakthrough role as the replacement obstetrician in Knocked Up and because, in fact, he is a doctor, plays Dario, the leader of the "Zoltouri." He is also well known as the "men's size 6" crime kingpin from The Hangover, but has numerous other acting credits from films like Role Models, Pineapple Express and All About Steve.

Anneliese van der Pol, who plays Jennifer (the best friend of Becca AKA Bella) in Vampires Suck, rose to fame as Chelsea on the Disney TV show That's So Raven, but moved on to Broadway following the shows cancellation in 2007.

Here's what Ken Jeong had to say:

CELEBUZZ: What can you tell me about Vampires Suck?

Jeong: Oh yeah! It's out today. It was a lot of fun. It's just basically a spoof of the Twilight movies, and it just totally kinda parodies that whole genre. And it's so timely, and I had a blast working on that film and with those guys right now. In fact, I think the cast and crew are like going to [a mall] in LA to watch, to see it all together, so I texted those guys my love.

CELEBUZZ: What do you think about the real Twilight?

Jeong: You know what, I think you only make fun of the stuff you love. I know some of those guys in the cast too, Twilight, like Justin Chon and some of those guys, and you know, they've tapped into an amazing cultural zeitgeist. They really tapped that nerve, and these Twi-hards can't get enough of that. I think that's going to be evident in Vampires Suck because they are so insatiable right now for it. It's kind of surreal to watch. It's amazing.

CELEBUZZ: Do you consider yourself a geek?

Jeong: Yeah, definitely. I think a geek is kind of like a nerd without the attitude plus friends. So definitely, an achieving nerd is a geek, and I'm that.

CELEBUZZ: Do you play video games?

Jeong: I used to as a kid. I mean, I'm 41, so now I don't. But see I was the kind of kid who played Asteroids for like 8 hours when I was in elementary school, so...

CELEBUZZ: You get it honestly.

Jeong: Yeah, I'm being completely honest. Part of geekery is honesty. I won't lie to you. Yeah, I won't lie to you now.

Anneliese van der Pol had this to add:

CELEBUZZ: What was it like making Vampires Suck?

Pol: It filmed in Louisiana in Shreveport, a beautiful place with beautiful, nice, kind people and delicious food, but as far as being on set, it was awesome, and that's why I'm here to support Ken Jeong (who hosted the Geek Awards). We did this movie together, and that was one of the highlights, meeting him. He's really funny and nice.

CELEBUZZ: Have you met any of the Twilight people in real life?

Pol: I have not. I've not met any of them, but now I'm really nervous to since I'm making fun of them so heavily.

CELEBUZZ: Does that make you Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Pol: I think I'm Team Edward. He's just... I mean... Robert Pattinson. Our guy, too. Matt Lanter is also just as sexy if not sexier.

CELEBUZZ: Do you consider yourself a geek?

Pol: I do, but I think a geek is somebody who can make fun of themselves and even call themselves a geek, so yeah. I'm pretty geeky sometimes. It took me an hour to get here. I was so lost. I think that's pretty geeky.
