Kelly Rutherford: There Must Be Balance Between Career and Relationships
'Gossip Girl' actress Kelly Rutherford often gives love advice to her on-screen daughter Blake Lively. And after her headline-making divorce, she surely knows a thing or two about the topic of matters of the heart. Today she tackles that age-old struggle: balance between love and work.
I think, like everything, it helps if you prioritize between your career and your relationships. If you have a decline at work, let your love know. Make sure he or she feels loved, even if, for example, you have to work late. Communication always helps.
If there is an important date in the relationship, the work can wait. It's a give and take.
At some point in relationships, especially if both people feel secure, you each will know what the other needs to make them happy. Our relationship may be our priority, but without our career or another creative outlet in life, we may not have as much to offer to our significant other. We all benefit from having interests outside of our day-to-day lives with someone -- and that keeps the relationship healthy.
If we are obsessed with work or relationships, we fall out of balance. So prioritize and balance your life and remember that communication is a helpful essential.
