Police Admit Paris Hilton Received Special Treatment in Cocaine Arrest
Apparently, they really haven’t built a jail cell that can hold Paris Hilton. At least not for long.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the celebutante, who was arrested for cocaine possession by Las Vegas cops in late August, was released from the Clark County Detention Center in a fraction of the time that other inmates are usually detained for similar charges. While Hilton was fast-tracked through the booking process and released from the CCDC in about three hours, according to a bail bonds professional who spoke to the paper, the average booking time is 4 to 12 hours, followed by another 4 to 12 hours of detention before release.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Deputy Chief Jim Dixon, who runs the facility, admits that Hilton was shooed out the door much quicker than the average inmate, but claims that the quick release was necessary to maintain order in the detention center:
“Yeah, she was treated differently so I don’t have a disruption of my process here at the county jail. When you bring somebody in like that, everybody comes over and tries to look at them. I’d have officers attempting to keep inmates away from her. I’d have disruptions.”
Whatever the reason, this isn’t the first time that Hilton has spent less time in the pokey than the average criminal would. Astute celebrity gossip historians will remember that, back in 2007, Hilton served a mere three days of a 45-day sentence for probation violation at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, after Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca signed orders reassigning her to home confinement due to an undisclosed medical condition.
Say what you will about Hilton—at least she’s not contributing to the modern-day dilemma of overcrowded jails.
Meanwhile, Paris—who’s been charged with felony drug possession in relation to her most recent arrest—is taking a breather from her troubles by chilling with her beau, Cy Waits (who was also arrested on the same night as Paris, for DUI) in Maui. Chances are, she’ll be sticking around the tropical paradise for a lot longer than she was in the clink.
