UPDATE: Danielle Staub Officially Out At 'Real Housewives'
UPDATE: Danielle Staub says she chose to leave RHONJ in hopes of getting her own show, according to an interview with Us Magazine.
I want my own show. I want to be me now. Not me according to other people. A spin-off is absolutely, positively where I'm going.
But her new show will still have drama and hair pulling, right? Not according to Danielle, who says one of the topics will be finding her birth mother.
I did not give [this] to Bravo because I felt like there was no fair portrayal of me and my family... to share with people who didn't even want to portray me as a human being. So that will be shared. I will do a breaking story on that when it does come out and it will be a part of my spin-off.
When asked about the future of RHONJ without her, Danielle aimed to put things in perspective:
The bottom line is, they need me, I don't need them. They don't talk about anything but me. I don't talk about them, at all. I talk about me too! I have no need for them in my life. They have a great need for me to make the show successful. I made it successful. I'm way too good for this. They have used me about as much as I can be used!
It's official: Danielle Staub, the contentious star of Bravo's The Real Housewives of New Jersey, will no longer be appearing on the show that made her a household name.
The news may not come as surprise to RHONJ fans, as rumors started circulating in August that the single mother had been fired from the show, allegedly because the other cast members threatened to walk if Danielle remained. After weeks of avoiding confirmation, Bravo executives finally admitted that Danielle is out.
Andy Cohen, Bravo's senior vice president of original programming and development (and affable host of all the Real Housewives reunion specials), confirmed the news in a statement released to the press:
The reunion was Danielle's last appearance on 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey.' We thought the hugs were a great way to end two seasons of bitterness between the women.
The "hugs" Andy referred to were the final hugs between Danielle, Jacqueline Laurita and Teresa Giudice during the final installment of the RHONJ reunion special. Watch the tears and hugs below.
The seemingly happy ending was a sharp contrast from the fights and screams from the first reunion special that aired last week. In that episode, Teresa began screaming at Danielle, telling her to "not bring up [her] family" after Danielle referenced Teresa's nephew.
Teresa's outburst (which ended with her pushing hapless host Andy) sparked an internet controversy that the "nephew" Danielle referenced was actually her husband's love child. Teresa denied the love child rumors but said she "hopes it's not Danielle" who is behind all the nasty gossip.
Danielle had hinted earlier that she wouldn't be returning to the show and mentioned that she was interested in working on a spin-off, but it isn't clear if Bravo will be producing one.
Danielle isn't the only Housewife to leave her franchise this summer: Across the Hudson, Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel confirmed that she was bowing out of the Big Apple edition to focus on her Bravo spin-off, Bethenny Getting Married.
