Lady Gaga’s VMA Meat Dress: $100 Worth of Beef

Lady Gaga dropped the collective jaws of the pop world when she stepped onto the VMA stage wearing a dress made of nearly 100% (real!) raw meat. Following the show and PETA’s panning of the carnivore couture, two butchers are tossing in their expert opinion on the quality of the dress, telling The New York Daily News it wasn’t exactly fashioned from filet mignon.

“It’s the cheaper end cuts – not including her,” said veteran New York butcher Peter Cacioppo. “You got about $100 of meat there.”

Franc Fernandez, the designer of the now-infamous dress, admits the frock was sewn together with raw flank steak. What might that have smelled like in the front row of the Nokia Theatre?

“It ain’t refrigerated,” Cacioppo said. “It’s probably stinking bad. She’s in the lights: It’s cooking.”

As for the specific cuts of beefy that made for Gaga’s raw look:

Her bodice looks like the outside of the rib. Over the shoulder looks like it does come from a shoulder. There are no expensive cuts here, no real steaks. The best you’ve got is the flank steak on her head.
