Kanye West Reveals His Side of VMAs Rant
No matter what he does, Kanye West will never be able to live down his 2009 VMA run-in with Taylor Swift. While the “Stronger” musician admits that his actions were foolish he wants to clear the air about what his intentions were at last year’s awards.
Kanye tells XXL magazine that his rant at the VMAs wasn’t about Taylor:
I stress that the incident wasn’t about Taylor personally. And it definitely wasn’t about race. Where I messed up is, at the end of the day, it’s your show, Taylor. It’s your show, MTV.
So, does that mean that Kanye is a secret Taylor superfan? Or did he just not mean to hurt her feelings?
Kanye later said that he is trying to change himself to “make sure that that doesn’t happen again.” Kanye’s efforts are paying off: He didn’t storm the stage during Taylor’s solo performance at Sunday night’s VMAs.
As previously reported, MTV executives (and VMA host Chelsea Handler) were allegedly pushing to get the two stars together for this year’s show. Unfortunately, the two weren’t able to do a joint appearance, reportedly because Taylor was uncomfortable with the idea. Instead, both Kanye and Taylor did separate solo performances at the show.
