Oprah to Pay Audience’s Australian Giveaway Taxes

Oprah Winfrey has pledged to shoulder the tax burden brought on by giving each member of her audience a trip to Australia. That gift — given in celebration of her 25th and final season — is truly now all expenses paid.

Back in 2004, Oprah’s “Everybody gets a car!” episode ended in a nightmare after each “lucky” audience member was required to shuck out $7,000 of their own money for taxes on their new ride.

This time Larry Edema, an audience member who’ll make the trip to Australia, tells TMZ that Oprah had a certified public accountant offstage who handled the tax issue immediately.

Also included in the Oprah special: sightseeing costs and travel-related expenses like passport fees.
