Why LaLa Loves Her Man Carmelo Anthony
Want to know what drew former TRL host LaLa to famed basketball star Carmelo Anthony? It wasn’t the money, or the free tickets to NBA games. Celebuzz caught up with La at the premiere party for her new show LaLa's Full Court Wedding and she told us the top five reasons Melo is her man.
1. He’s very laid back. I think he balances me out because my personality is a little more over-the-top.
2. I do think he’s attractive if I can say so myself.
3. But more importantly, he has a really nice heart and is a nice person.
4. He dresses well.
5. And I think he’s really good at what he does, and having someone who’s so passionate about what they do is a great quality.
While sipping cocktails at the party with famous friends like Serena Williams, LaLa reminisced about the long road she’s been on with her hubby.
“I was on MTV, and he saw me and contacted a friend of mine and wanted to meet me,” she said. “I was like, “Oh, no. I am never going to date a basketball player,” but slowly over time the relationship formed and we’re at where we’re at now, seven years later.”
One of the most monumental moments in those seven years was the birth of their son, Kiyan, three years ago. Let’s just say it brought the two closer — literally.
“In the beginning [it was long distance] when I was at MTV. And then I moved to Denver when I got pregnant and then afterwards I’m between here and Denver,” she said.
In the couple’s new show, viewers will get to see the not-so-perfect moments of having two houses in separate cities while planning a wedding.
“It’s following a woman entering a new chapter in her life and everything that comes along with that, whether it’s insecurity issues or 'I've got to lose weight' or 'Do I really want to get married?' And then you see fun moments like Kelly Rowland and Kim Kardashian throwing my bachelorette party or me going to Ludacris for brotherly advice as to why guys act the way they do.”
Clearly, it’s been smooth sailing for the longtime lovers. And why not? They know everything about each other!
“I’m the most comfortable with this one. Seven years, I feel like I know everything about him. I like to laugh and say, 'If any surprises come out now then I’m in big trouble.' Our base of our relationship has always been about friendship and I think that’s what makes it work.”
LaLa's Full Court Wedding premieres tonight at 10:30/9:30 Central on VH1.
