Paris Hilton Cops a Plea, Dodges Jail
As expected, Paris Hilton agreed to a plea deal in her cocaine possession case today in Las Vegas, avoiding jail time as long as she obeys a judge's order to stay out of trouble.
The court dropped a felony drug possession charge against Paris, 29, who in turn pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors - one drug possession and one obstructing a police officer (for claiming she thought the cocaine was gum and the Chanel purse that housed it wasn't hers.) As a result, Paris avoids time behind bars in exchange for one year's probation, 200 hours of community service and an "intensive" substance abuse program.
The judge also warned Paris that the terms of her plea deal would be "terminated" and she would be sent to jail for one year if she is arrested for anything but a minor traffic violation in the coming 12 months.
"The Clark County Detention Center is not the Waldorf Astoria," the judge warned Paris, according to TMZ.
