Rihanna Dismisses Lady Gaga, Katy Perry as ‘Generic Pop’
After being dismissed as a lightweight by Taylor Momsen, Rihanna apparently feels that it’s time to talk some smack herself.
The “Rude Boy” singer got a little rude herself during an interview with BBC’s Radio 1, dismissing the work of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Ke$ha as nondescript fluff. Discussing her upcoming album Loud (out on November 12), Ri-Ri opined,
“[Loud is] just the perfect Rihanna album. Every song is tailored to me. I wanted songs on there that were all Rihanna songs, that nobody else could do. I didn’t want the generic pop record that Ke$ha or Lady Gaga or Katy Perry could do.”
Something tells us that a few people might have a thing or two to say about that.

Pretty sure pop hasn’t been more than manufactured crap since the 90′s produced the heavily marketed and label controlled boy/girl bands.
The pop genre mainly consists of artists who are more about their image than their music and therefore do not need to be able to have a scrap of talent but in fact something that can be molded and marketed in such a way that will sell their music to the masses.
Image 1st, music 2nd.
Therefore there is very rarely a pop singer that can call themselves original in regards to their music.

P.S. Rihanna, do you know what Lady GaGa was doing before she performed? She wrote for little acts like yours. She is as original as they come. GaGa draws inspiration from other artists but if you think that is wrong than don’t watch any more Quentin Tarantino or Martin Scrocese films because they both admittedly do the same thing.

I’m pretty sure riri didn’t mean to be rude i mean her and katy Perry are close friends anyways. Plus when she said she didn’t want to be like lady gaga, katy and kesha it doesn’t mean she’s saying that their not original and their styles are the same. What i believe she meant was she doesn’t want to be another katy, or lady gaga or kesha she’s trying to basically do something different that they haven’t thought of. Every musician wants to bring something new to the table and the truth is celebrities compeat with each other to be the most unique, but at the end of the day they are regular people and are friends but in their careers it’s always a competition.So i really think that we shouldn’t take it that serious because they are seeing it as competition as always with no harm done.

I think Katy Perry is great. And I love Lady GAGA she’s gorgeous. And I also love Kesha, but Rhianna is amazing. She’s the only west indie artist in the bunch what she said IS true only her can do the genric pop that sh does. Well at leat the type that she does. She does generic pop for real, but it has a carriabean flow that’s all she’s saying.
I think people are overracting about what she said..it seems to me that she was just saying she wanted to go back to her roots, do something unique and stay away from all the other club trash music that’s out right now, the fast beat, screaming over beats songs like Katy and the others. Don’t create drama where there’s none.

Umm-sounds a bit full of herself. Raggin’ on Lady Gaga and Katy Perry is a bit much. I personally don’t care for Rihanna’s style at all-and she does not sound original. She wasn’t dissing because if you listen afterwards she says “That anybody could just do” as in something that EVERYBODY can sing. She’s saying she wants a distinct sound that’s all her own. One that Katy Perry and the like can’t just pick up and sing.
