Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Brother 'Burning Dan' Dies
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is mourning the death of his big brother, Dan Gordon-Levitt, better known as "Burning Dan" -- a fire dancer, performance artist and staple at the annual Burning Man music and arts festival in Nevada. There's no information regarding the cause of Dan's death at this time.
Joseph announced his lookalike brother's passing late Tuesday on Twitter, and at the website for hitRECord, the online artists' community founded by the Gordon-Levitt brothers. JGL called his brother a "super hero" in a post titled "Burning Dan 1974-2010:"
BURNING dAN brightly embodied that bold beastly bliss sometimes referred to as 'the creative spirit.' He was my chief collaborator on the foundational incarnations of hitRECord.org over the years and continues to inspire us ever the more. He would absolutely positively insist that we not let this bad news deter us on our collective mission. That said, I might not feel up to it for a little while.
The Gordon-Levitt brothers were a tight twosome, with Dan telling PopEater recently that Joseph "would be my favorite person in the world even if I wasn't lucky enough to know him as my brother. He's just awesome in every way that I pay attention to."
Dan was also a photographer and founder of the Flow Temple, a school and performance group for fire dancing and "flow arts" based in Venice, California.
