Rihanna: Chris Brown Incident Was 'Wake-Up Call'
A fire-haired Rihanna strikes a white-hot pose on the cover of the December issue of Marie Claire UK, but the pop star takes a serious turn in the magazine interview, opening up about her broken relationship with ex Chris Brown.
The "Only Girl (In The World)" singer, who seldom discusses the 2009 domestic violence incident that landed her former beau in jail, tells Marie Claire UK that the much-talked-about assault was something of a blessing in disguise.
"I needed that wake-up call in my life," she said. "I needed a turning point, and that's what God was giving to me."
Described as tearful during her interview, Rihanna, 22, goes on to say that she felt like "an empty vessel" during her relationship with Brown:
I was very lost. I have to say I felt really confused... I hate talking about it but it was really crazy because I felt so out of touch with myself and when that happens... It’s scary because nothing you say or do feels like it’s you. You just lose touch of everything that you love and everything that you would normally do; how you would dress or how you would say something... It just feels like it’s not coming from you.
Now moving on with Los Angeles Dodgers baseballer Matt Kemp, Rihanna says she has emerged from her dark days, declaring that "once you're back on your feet... that's the ultimate achievement."
Moving forward certainly appears to agree with RiRi, who positively glows on the MC cover in a shiny Mark Fast dress and sparkly Solange Azagury-Partridge earrings.
