Emma Watson Felt ‘Sick’ Over ‘Potter’ Fortune

Emma Watson was just a 17-year-old actress enjoying her beloved role in the Harry Potter saga when – pouf! – she learned she had conjured up an estimated $32 million.

While such news would likely inspire most teens to embark on a serious shopping spree, Emma, now 20, wasn’t exactly happy to learn she was a young millionairess, as she recalls a sit-down with her dad, Chris Watson, in the December issue of British Vogue.

“By the third or fourth film, the money was starting to get serious,” she told Vogue (via Oh No They Didn’t!) “I had no idea. I felt sick, very emotional.”

According to reports in the UK, Emma reveals that before that “money conversation” with her dad, she was receiving an allowance of about $75 per week. So what about that shopping spree? Turns out Emma, who describes herself as “straight and boring” in the Vogue cover story, promptly enrolled in a money management class and opted for standard student housing at Brown University in Rhode Island, saying she has hardly touched her Potter fortune.

Instead of blowing cash, Emma says, she cut loose with her new pixie haircut, revealing:

“For the nine years I was on Harry Potter I was contractually obliged not to cut my hair, not to tan. All the normal things girls do, I couldn’t. So when I got the chance to change my appearance, this is what I did.”

If Emma ever needs to talk money, though, she need only turn to co-star Daniel Radcliffe, who is richer than Princes William and Harry.
