Show Based on Chelsea Handler’s Books Picked Up

Chelsea Handler might be best known for her late night talk show and her are they/aren’t they love life, but she will soon conquer a new frontier: the world of primetime TV.

NBC picked up a pilot, titled after her autobiographical book Are You There God? It’s Me, Chelsea? and it will be based on her other best selling books, My Horizontal Life and Chelsea Chelsea, Bang Bang.

Deadline described the show as a “multi-camera comedy based on Handler’s life in her twenties” and “the comedy will be centered on a twentysomething woman named Chelsea who won’t have the same profession as comedian/author Handler but will carry a lot of the traits in her character as depicted in Handler’s 3 best-selling autobiographical books.”

No word on casting yet, but Chelsea will executive produce the project along with Dharma & Greg writer Dottie Zicklin, who will also pen the pilot.

Would you watch a show based on Chelsea’s life? Or are the books and her other TV show enough? Let us know your thoughts and drop a comment!
