Channing Tatum Moving to ’21 Jump Street’?

Is Channing Tatum ready to step into Johnny Depp’s shoes?

Deadline New York reports that the 30-year-old Step Up actor is about to negotiate for the male lead in the upcoming cinematic adaptation of the ’80s TV series 21 Jump Street, which launched Depp’s career and thus made the world a much, much better place. Sony Pictures is also said to be eyeing Superbad funnyman Jonah Hill for a lead in the adaptation.

The film, which will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs), is expected to go into production next spring.

The Stephen J. Cannell-created TV series, which ran on Fox from 1987 until 1991,  followed a squad of youthful undercover officers who infiltrated schools and other teenage venues in an effort to solve crimes.
