First Look at Brad Pitt in ‘The Tree of Life’

Brad Pitt’s newest epic The Tree of Life has finally seen the light of day with the release of two stills from the movie, although they do little to clarify the movie’s purposefully unexplained plot.

Billed as an “impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950’s” by Fox Searchlight, writer/director Terrence Malick (Badlands, The Thin Red Line) has done a fine job of keeping its plot under wraps. Accordingly, the official description does little more than highlight its themes:

Jack (played by Sean Penn) [is] trying to reconcile the complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith.

Heath Ledger was once linked to Brad’s role before his untimely death. The trailer plays with Black Swan this weekend, with the film to follow on May 27, 2011 in the US.
