James Franco Ain't Afraid of Oscar Gig
With about two months to go until the Oscars, the eternally cool James Franco has declared himself unafraid of the daunting task of hosting the Big Show. While co-host Anne Hathaway cops to nerves, Franco tells EW.com that he'll be "happy to take the criticism. Even if it’s ‘The Worst Oscars Ever,’ I don’t care. It’s one night of the year.”
The 127 Hours (and General Hospital) star also reveals that when he was tapped by producers, he "was very, very surprised, and my initial reaction was ‘No,'… then I thought about it and I thought, well, why not? Because I’ll look bad? Well, I don’t care.”
Franco vows to bring a hefty dose of confidence on Feb. 27, even if his 'people' advised him against the gig because he might also land a Best Actor nod.
“When we finally met and discussed it in person, all my representatives were saying, ‘No! Of course not!’” he said. “So that always sparks something in me. So I said, ‘Yes, of course!’ Because that reaction that they have is based on conventional wisdom of what makes a good career. And that can be boring — really boring.”
