Ladies and gentlemen, meet your new Lisbeth Salander.

The Social Network actress Rooney Mara gave movie buffs a sneak peek of what to expect from the currently filming American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on Saturday, flaunting a dramatic new look while attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala.

Mara, 25, won the role of hacker Salander last year, after a bevy of Hollywood A-listers, including Kristen Stewart, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, had been mentioned in connection with the role. Mara will be inheriting the part from Noomi Rapace, who portrayed Salander in the Swedish Dragon Tattoo movie franchise, which was adapted from Stieg Larsson's wildly popular book series.

The American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is currently scheduled for a December 21, 2011 release.

Do you think Mara will nail the part? Share your predictions in the comments section.

Um... WTF. Rapace, kill this wannabe Lisbeth. That just doesn't look right. Rooney is going to kick ass in this role, don't f*cking call her a wannabe you douche. She will portray Lisbeth in her own way as Noomi did.
