Fifth ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Movie Underway

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides doesn’t hit theaters until May, but Disney is already laying the groundwork for the next installment of the hugely successful, Johnny Depp-starring series.

Deadline New York reports that Disney has completed negotiations with Pirates screenwriter Terry Rossio, who co-penned the first four movies, to work on the fifth installment. Disney is also said to be courting director Rob Marshall, who helmed On Stranger Tides, to return for the next film.

The best news of all? While Depp isn’t officially on board to reprise the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, the actor’s deal structure allows  for a fifth film, and it’s likely only a matter of time before he’s locked in.
