Cody Simpson’s Birthday Brings Out the Teen Stars
The young Hollywood stars of tomorrow showed up in droves to 14-year-old Cody Simpson’s birthday party, and it was a tweenage dream. The Australian pop singer rented out Santa Monica Pier for all of his friends to enjoy until their hearts were content or until it became bedtime.
Of course, those friends happened to be fresh-faced Disney and Nickelodeon child stars and musicians. Celebuzz spoke with all of them for a glimpse into the future of entertainment.
Modern Family’s Rico Rodriguez, 12, was the first to arrive along with his older sister Raini, who’s had parts in Paul Blart: Mall Cop, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and the upcoming Disney movie Prom.
Despite Modern Family’s Golden Globes’ shutout, Rico made sure he had fun at the after party. “I danced with Jennifer Love Hewitt,” he told Celebuzz.
And he’s fully aware that the other lady in his life, Sofia Vergara, is beautiful. “A lot of people come up to me, ‘How’s it working with Sofia? She’s very, very pretty,’ and I say, ‘I very, very know that.'” Then Rico reflected for a moment before adding, “I tend to teach her. She tends to teach me. It’s a circle of life.”
The girl from Cody’s debut music video “iYiYi”, Scarlett Turner, is now acting for Blackbox TV on YouTube only, full budget horror shorts, and it’s not kids stuff, she says. People die. “But it’s not intense like bloody and gory, because my family would never let me do something inappropriate. It’s a lot of fun, and you’ll get to see me in more dramatic roles.”
Stephanie Scott, AKA young Natalie Portman in No Strings Attached, has a packed schedule for a 14-year-old teen. Last week she shot her first music video with Disney, and she’s preparing to film the channel’s newest show as a cast member on A.N.T. Farm.
On her older counterpart’s Golden Globe win, Scott said, “I was so happy that she won, and I loved her dress I have to say.”
She also revealed that she’s steering clear of boys and has no celebrity crush. “Does Ben and Jerry count?”
Zach Callison, another Disney kid, had kind words to say about Miley Cyrus, who he worked with for a snippet on an episode of Hannah Montana. “She was really cool, laid back. She was just really easy to work with.”
Mandy Rain from School Gyrls goes “way back” with Justin Bieber she said, who cameo’d in the Nick Cannon film. Rain also spilled a romantic story about her boss and his wife Mariah Carey. “We were in China, and I was on the bus with Nick sitting next to him, and he’s in the corner talking to Maria like, ‘I love you more. No, I love you more.’ It was cute.”
The Suite Life on Deck star Debbie Ryan sees herself following in Tina Fey’s footsteps. “If you look at Mean Girls, the amount that Tina Fey was involved in that – That’s how much I want to be involved in every project I do. She’s brilliant.”
“There’s a quote by Zoey Deschanel that I love. ‘My job is not to be the most beautiful person. My job is to be the best actor I can be.’ That’s something I apply all the time. I don’t spend much time in hair and makeup. I’d rather spent time on my scene.”
The birthday boy himself, Cody, was in shock at all press who showed up for his birthday. “Now that all this is here, I don’t know if I would have believed it. It’s crazy. My birthday last year I was having meetings with my record label. It’s all going super fast for everything that’s happening.”
Cody was busy this week shooting a new music video that will be released near Valentine’s Day, he said.
Before long, it was time for the interviews to stop and the party to begin. Justin Bieber collaborator Jessica Jarrell sang “Happy Birthday,” to Cody, and then he set the party-goers loose with these words: “I just want to thank everyone for being here tonight. 2011’s going to be a great year for all of us!”
