George Clooney ‘Completely Recovered’ From Malaria Bout
Been wondering why you haven’t seen George Clooney’s dashing mug around much lately? There might be a good reason.
The 49-year-old actor’s rep reveals to People magazine that Clooney recently got over a bout of malaria, which he contracted while on a diplomatic mission in Africa’s Sudan region, where he was taking steps to prevent another genocide in the region.
The rep notes,
“George is completely over the Malaria he contracted while in the Sudan during the first week in January. This was his second bout with it. This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad ten days instead of a death sentence.”
Malaria’s symptoms can include fever and headache and, in severe cases, can lead to hallucinations, coma and death. There are more than 250 million cases of malaria each year, resulting in between one and million deaths, primarily among children in sub-Saharan Africa.
Clooney will discuss his most recent bout of malaria on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight on Friday, in an interview taped on January 13.
