Emma Watson is leaving Hogwarts for early ’90s high school ennui. The British actress has signed on to star in the film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

According to Deadline, Emma, 20, will co-star in the film with 3:10 Yuma star Logan Lerman. Emma will play Sam, the main character’s love interest and friend.

The coming-of-age story follows an introverted teenage boy as he maneuvers through high school. The novel came under fire when it was published in 1999 due to its frank handling of sex, drugs, abortion and suicide. However, the controversy didn’t stop the book from becoming a cult classic amongst young adults.

Chbosky is set to direct and write the film which will hopefully come as a relief to Wallflower fans who may have been nervous about the on-screen fate of their favorite book. Chbosky’s previous film credits include the screenplay for the film adaptation of Rent.
