Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' vs. Madonna's 'Express Yourself': Too Similar?
However, as the Celebuzz crew is sitting here with 'Born' blasting, it dawned on us that Gaga's new song sounds like Madonna's 'Express Yourself.' A lot like it. The tempo, the chorus, the beat ... there are a whole lot of similarities here. Could it be yet another tip of the hat from Gaga to Madge, even after many thought her previous tune 'Alejandro' was equal parts Madonna's 'La Isla Bonita' and Ace of Base's 'Don't Turn Around'?
Not familiar with the classic Madonna tune? Listen to 'Born' and 'Express' side-by-side (heck, even play them at the same time!) after the jump and hear for yourself!

What do you think? Just homage from Gaga, or is it too close for comfort in the copyright department? Sound off in the comments!

Don't be a drag etc if you over lay the words from madonnas vogue song from "Greta Garbo and Monroe etc it has the same sound almost identical also in the video ga ga has a broad gap in her front teeth and at one stage is sporting the long blonde ponytail Madonna has worn . Not sure if it's a homage, copy or both tho, however ga ga s song where she is the fella is a slow version of four non blondes I think they were called - so nope she isn't original
Never would have made a connection between the two. Madonna....step back and sit down. A new Queen is in town. GO GAGA GO
As soon as I heard this song on the radio, I thought of Madonna's song.
Gaga copies EVERYONE. It's the only reason she's successfull. She's the most unoriginal artist I've ever seen.
“Don’t be a drag, just be a queen Whether you’re broke or evergreen You’re black, white, beige, chola descent You’re Lebanese, you’re orient Whether life’s disabilities Left you outcast, bullied, or teased Rejoice and love yourself today ‘Cause baby you were born this way.” BARF!lol
I don’t think Lady Gaga a moron who would try to blatantly steal someone else’s material. “Express Yourself” is an influential song with a message that empowers women. I doubt Gaga would think she could make a song that sounds like it without people noticing. “Born This Way,” in my opinion, is an homage to Madonna’s message (she has expressed her as a personal icon) and an expansion of it. It’s not only about empowerment of women, but the empowerment of all people who have been cast aside, ridiculed, or who generally feel down and lack confidence — “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen Whether you’re broke or evergreen You’re black, white, beige, chola descent You’re Lebanese, you’re orient Whether life’s disabilities Left you outcast, bullied, or teased Rejoice and love yourself today ‘Cause baby you were born this way.” Again, I see it as an homage to and extension of the message, but that’s just me.
Why do people always say that she's paying homage? It seems like that's all she's capable of doing. "Paying homage." But most of us just call that unoriginality.
lady gaga is a big OTT copy of madonna.
