Giveaway Alert! Win a SIGNED Copy of Mark Ballas’ CD ‘HurtLoveBox’
THIS CONTEST HAS ENDED. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING!
Sure, you all know and love Mark Ballas from his Dancing with the Stars gig, but what you might not know is that the talented 24-year-old has a budding music career as well.
In his latest effort, HurtLoveBox, Mark took some inspiration from his own life to create a "pop rock" sound that is sure to make the ladies swoon.
Aside from his own life, who inspired Mark's sound?
Tell us a little about HurtLoveBox. What was your inspiration for the CD? I’ve been writing for a while. I went to school where I was singing, acting, and playing instruments, so I’ve been playing now for about 15 years. My style is very percussion-like and there are a lot of flamenco techniques. I wanted to make songs that you can hear the percussion themes and the flamenco style that I use, but still used in a pop vein. The songs are pop rock songs. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve kept all my memories in boxes. I feel like a record is a collection of the artist’s memory. Half the record is about going through hard times, and half the record is about going through good times. That’s where the name HurtLoveBox comes from. It’s stuff we can all relate to.
Which artists are your biggest inspirations? Growing up, I listened to a lot of Michael Jackson. I also listened to a lot of flamenco music. I love John Mayer, Eric Clapton, and a lot of that kind of stuff as well.
We know you’re busy with DWTS right now, but do you have any plans for live shows or tours? Yeah. During the show, I dance on Mondays, and then I play at a venue in LA called The Mint every Monday night. During the summer I’ll be doing a HurtLoveBox tour all over -- you name it, we're going there.
