Jennifer Lawrence Lands Katniss Role in ‘Hunger Games’ Movies
While the search is still on for Peeta, Hunger Games fans can breathe a bit easier, as Jennifer Lawrence has officially been cast as Katniss.
Lawrence, who burst onto the Hollywood scene thanks to her Oscar-nominated role in Winter's Bone last year -- firmed up the role earlier this week according to The Wrap, beating out many for the sought-after survivalist character. In the books that have the chance to turn into a Twilight-esque franchise on the big screen, Katniss joins the survivalist order and must compete against other teenagers in order to save her family and community.
Now that the Katniss role is locked up, there's still much debate over who should play the male lead character Peeta. Alex Pettyfer was the initial frontrunner, but other young Hollywood hotties Josh Hutcherson and Hunter Parrish have recently been tossed into the mix.
Hutcherson recently told EW: “I love Peeta. The character is so much who I am—self deprecating, a people person. And he’d be such a great character to play! Like in the third book? Oh my God. But they’re meeting a lot of people right now. One can only dream.”
