Exclusive! Simon Cowell on Who Will Sit at Judge's Table on 'X Factor'
We all know Simon Cowell as a (mostly) loveable American Idol judge, but now Simon is ready to bring the British sensation, X-Factor, to our side of the pond. People have not been able to stop dishing on who will join him at the judge's table. With auditions right around the corner, they're definitely cutting it down to the wire.
While mega-record exec LA Reid was officially confirmed last week, there are still two spots left. Who will be joining him at the judge's table?
If you didn't know, The X-Factor has a different format than American Idol, with the judges also serving as mentors -- making the stakes of choosing judges that much more intense. Celebuzz caught up with Simon and asked him to put an end to the rumors once and for all:
On rumors of who will be sitting with him at the judge's table: All I'll say is this -- we've met with all of them [Nicki Minaj, Jessica Simpson, Mariah Carey, Cheryl Cole] but there are a lot of things that factor into it: contracts, scheduling, chemistry, it's not just my decision. Now that LA Reid is involved, his opinion is included as well, so there's just a lot to take into consideration before these decisions are made. And choosing Reid was a no-brainer. The only thing that was holding him back was that he was under contract.
On it being bigger than American Idol: Listen, I wouldn't have decided to bring it over here if I didn't think it would be a hit. I'm not doing this to be number three or 4. People had been telling me to bring it over here and I was apprehensive, but I figured someone would eventually try to duplicate it, and I didn't want it to be in someone else's hands. I think it will be great timing, because there aren't many albums being released between September and December, [when it aired in Britain] so it will kind of fill that gap.
If you think you have what it takes to make it on the show, auditions start on March 27 in LA at the L.A. Sports Arena! Other places they'll visit: Miami Thursday, April 7; Newark, NJ Thursday, April 14; Seattle Wednesday, April 20; Chicago Wednesday, April 27; and Dallas Thursday, May 26.
