As an avid fan of foreign cuisines, it's difficult to choose just one favorite dish. Chinese, Indian, and Greek round out my favorite cuisines but one specific dish comes to mind when I think of incredible spicy food and it came from a cart. I went to college in New York City in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan (which is known for incredible eats) and, as a broke college student, knew all of the best places for cheap food. I left the City in 2008 but still rant and rave about the lamb shwarma I used to buy from a Hallal cart on the corner of 60th and Columbus Ave. For 5 bucks, a guy would shave lamb from a big skewer right in front of you and pack it into a styrofoam container filled with your choice of mild yellow or spicy orange rice. Obviously, I always went with the spicy! It came with the works- lettuce, tzaziki sauce, and spicy red sauce with chili seeds in it (my guess is that it was Sambal Oelek, a cousin of the infamous Sriracha, better known as "Rooster Sauce"). For a dollar more, I'd get a can of Canada Dry ginger ale and my meal would be complete! I've searched far and wide in Houston for anything that matches the intensity of the heat or the flavor of that fire roasted lamb and everything falls short. My friends here look at me like I'm crazy when I rave about eating shwarma from a cart on the side of the street, but to this day, I'm a believer!

Mmm... my favorite exotic food is Greek spanakopita. They are delicious cheese and spinach filled triangles of phyllo dough baked to perfection!
