Report: ‘The Hunger Games’ Lead Down to Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson
According to Deadline (which is rarely wrong) we may soon have our male lead for The Hunger Games. Much to the heated debate of die-hard fans, Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Katniss Everdeen and Lionsgate has been narrowing down their list as to which young actors will land the coveted roles of Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne.
If you haven't read the books, Peeta is the love interest of Jennifer Lawrence's character and is described as being medium height with a stocky build, and "ashy blonde hair that falls in waves over his forehead." Gale has a smaller role in the first film.
Now, meet your possible contenders: Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.
We think Hemsworth, 21, and Hutcherson, 18, both have what it takes to play the leads, but not gonna lie in our heads we imagined them playing reverse characters. Apparently Lionsgate has not made an official offer and nothing is definitive.
Alex Pettyfer seemed to be the frontrunner for a long time for Peeta, no word yet on why his name is not at the top of the list. Perhaps saying he was "considering" the role so publicly wasn't the right move.
