Natalie Portman Quits Veganism While Pregnant
Hollywood just lost another famous vegan: Natalie Portman revealed during a radio interview on Monday that she has given up veganism while she is pregnant.
"I actually went back to being vegetarian when I became pregnant, just because I felt like I wanted that stuff," the Oscar winner told Q100's Bert Show (via UsMagazine.com) in Atlanta.
"I was listening to my body to have eggs and dairy and that sort of stuff. I know there are people who do stay vegan but I think you have to just be careful, watch your iron levels and your B12 levels and supplement those if there are things you might be low in in your diet."
Natalie – who has been a vegetarian for over twenty years – went vegan in 2009 after reading Jonathan Safran Foer's Eating Animals.
"I'm often interrogated about being vegetarian," Natalie wrote in 2009. "I've always been shy about being critical of others' choices because I hate when people do that to me."
Natalie launched her own line of luxury vegan footwear in 2007 with New York shoe store Te Casan. The line featured simple pumps and stilettos made from animal-free materials.
Natalie isn't the only pregnant vegan in Hollywood: Longtime vegan Alicia Silverstone recently announced that she is pregnant although there is no word on if she is giving up veganism while she is expecting.
