Teen Psychiatrist on Demi Lovato’s Decision to Leave Show
Teen psychiatrist Dr. Janet Taylor (as seen on the TODAY show) says "any decision" can be the "right decision" when it comes to recovery, and she thinks Demi Lovato is on the right track.
The Disney star announced Tuesday that she would be leaving her show Sonny with a Chance, saying in a statement to People.com:
"I don’t think going back to Sonny would be healthy for my recovery. ... Being in front of a camera would make me nervous.”It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music."Dr. Janet says that Demi pursuing her passion for music can be a healthy decision. "Music is her passion. She should maximize her time with activities that she gets the most out of. ... Music is what she likes and that is what she's choosing."
But is Demi's fame affecting her recovery plan?"Fame is a beauty and a curse because every step will be watched," Dr. Janet admits, but she adds that addiction and recovery is "independent of wealth," and everyone has to work at it. "[Ultimately,] recovery is all the same."
Dr. Janet's advice for Demi, "keep at it!" "Stay in recovery and serve as an example to young people struggling with addictive behavior. ... Everyday is a struggle."
