Demi Lovato: I Have Bipolar Disorder
Demi Lovato says that while in a treatment facility for an eating disorder and issues with cutting, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
The former Disney star told People.com:
“I never found out until I went into treatment that I was bipolar. … Looking back it makes sense. There were times when I was so manic, I was writing seven songs in one night and I’d be up until 5:30 in the morning.”
This news comes nearly a week after Demi was throwing her support behind another celebrity struggling with the same disorder.
Demi expressed her concern for Catherine Zeta-Jones, who checked into a mental health facility to receive treatment for bipolar II disorder but has since been released, tweeting:
“I don’t know Catherine Zeta-Jones personally but what she has decided to do it SO brave.. And SO difficult but worth it… I’m proud of her.”
Prior to her admittance of having bipolar disorder, Demi’s chatted with Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts Wednesday, disclosing how getting bullied led to an eating disorder and bouts with cutting. “I literally didn’t know why they were being so mean to me. And when I would ask them why, they would just say, ‘Well, you’re fat.”
Now, Demi seems to be in a much better place and hopes her story can help others just like her. She said on GMA, “The real reason why I’m sitting down with you is to open up the eyes of so many young girls, that it doesn’t have to be this way.”

Oh please. Ladies and gentleman, the newest celebrity trend – bipolar disorder! Right after not paying your taxes. Such BS.
You’re a moron. Two celebrities come out and announce they have a disorder – a common disorder, by the way – and not one that people claim to be “trendy”. What about not paying taxes?? What are you even talking about? What an asinine comment.
very very hot sexyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
to “Me”- obviously you are missing a sensitivity chip. Also you will NEVER understand mental illness. I’m Bipolar myself. For her to admit that she HAS an ACTUAL MEDICAL ISSUE and not BS-ing about it and making excuses and doing it to help others is a very positive thing for youth to hear. Also she’s putting he HEALTH first! I commend her! She should be applauded. She’s quitting a hit show but knows where her priorities are….unlike someone like Lindsey Lohan.
i feel sorry for her, somehow i knew this was coming coz of watching 90210 and silvers character going thorugh phases, i feel sorry for her many people have manic depression, its sad. At least she is taking care of herself hope all her bullies are seriously regretting themselves now, she is so talented. Bless her
Demi is the best role model for kids nowadays !

i’m so glad these celebs are coming forward to shed much needed light on this! for those who don’t believe this brain disorder exists, i wish i could be you because that would mean i never had to deal with it from my dad, my ex-fiance, my son’s father, my SON (who is only 10!!!! and has been this way since he turned 3) and myself (much like what Demi went through)!
