Dorm Style 101 with Christian Serratos Contest: Win a Shopping Spree!
May 16, 2011 at 5:00pm
Sink your teeth into this! Christian Serratos — best known as Angela Weber in Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse – is hooking up a dorm room makeover, sponsored by IKEA! She plays Bella’s BFF on the big screen, now she’ll buddy up with one lucky winner IRL by accompanying them on an in-store shopping spree.
Why rummage through yard sales or some dusty old attic for second-hand goods when you can score an all-new dorm style from IKEA?
To win the IKEA shopping spree with Christian for back to college, see the official contest rules and then leave a comment below as to why you think you deserve to win this prize. Entrants must be 18 years-old.

I just started working recently and am in a new apartment. It is cramped on space but I’ve been trying to make it feel more like home. I work quite a bit so I would love to make my living room and bedroom feel more inviting for the time I spend at home. I am not the greatest decorator, so help from a designer would be very helpful in pulling my space together while keeping it compact.
This will be my first time away from home and I am so glad that it will be for something as amazing and significant as college! Though I still have a few months left at home I am already freaking out about when the day to leave finally comes! But I think winning a prize as cool as this would help ease my transition into college because I can at least have the opportunity to decorate my dorm as I like and give it that home away from home vibe!
My three friends and I are entering our senior year of college and while it is bittersweet, we intend to make the best of it! We are moving about a block off-campus for our senior year, and we are excited to finally have more space and to be able to live together. We fell in love with the space the first time we saw it, and an IKEA shopping spree and makeover would be perfect to make it the cozy, fun space for us to study, entertain, and relax in. We actually don’t have much furniture now, so we are starting with a pretty blank slate! We’ve all looked forward to living together and to our senior year for a long time, and this would certainly be the best way to kick our year off right and help us have the most memorable year possible in our new off-campus home!
im a busy mom i have 5 wonderful children i dont work it will quit expensive to get a babysitter my husband is the only one with the income we live paycheck to paycheck .It would be wonderful to have this experience i would love to have a warm home when i have visiters .We have had family giving us there furniture so we had taken what we needed . FINGERS CROSS
PICK ME PICK ME. I want to go back to college just to meet Christian Serratos!
I’ve been sleeping on the same mattress for 10 years! Also, none of my furniture match each other. I lost my job & haven’t been able to get back in gear. Due to that I gained 25 pounds in the last year & it is hard to lose it now. Please help!
i deserve to win this prize because i do not have money to spend these days. i am sure just like almost everyone else. it would be mazing just to be able to get away and pamper myself. i just graduated with my associates degree & am planning on continuing my education. money money money ! HELP.
Being an Architecture major, I don’t have too much time to decorate my room, so I guess it needs a little bit of an upgrade. But to be honest, I would sell my whole house to spend one afternoon with Christian Serratos.
I just finished my sophomore year of college and i am moving off campus with a few of my friends. The house is empty, so i have to buy all new furniture. I am studying abroad in the fall so i will be putting my money towards my expenses overseas and therefore, do not have much money to spend on furniture for my new house. I recently went to ikea and was admiring all the furniture in the store, imagining what my new house could look like with the amazing furniture they have! Winning this giveaway would be a dream come true! Also, since i will be stressed and overwhelmed with school work, i am not sure how much time i will have to browse multiple furniture stores looking for the best deals!
I deserve to win because me and my boyfriend just moved in together after 4 years together and we hope to get engaged soon (and also add some furniture to our apartment) but i lost my job a few months ago so for now our lovesac is our furniture! :) This would be the most incredible experience ever!
I’ve bin living in this here wood shack, or as you might call it a wooden shipping box. It’s very spacious fer myself but needs a woman’s touch. I mean seen as there ain’t any windows but moreso gaps in the slats it ain’t too homely. I need something to look at while sittin’ around in here, wittlin’ my wood. I mean, I carve figurines of Christian all day long but have no where to put them, nor a bed to lie on whilst I dream of her. Perhaps I could use a rug to tie the room together.
I mean, I guess some lighting would be nice too although I don’t know if there is an outlet near my shelf and it’d be nice to have light so I can look at pictures of Christian. I guess I could get my friend Pepe Pimienta to have a look. I don’t get paid for rastling condiments, and my deputy Ketchup fell of the edge of the canyon and went splat. I mean they think they gotta prove themselves seen as their not natural products like produce. Sometimes the carrots help out but they’re too top heavy and end up tripping on the smallest things while chasing the condiments.
Because I´m a loyal and respectful Fan of her since 4 years! She was a big inspiration for me over all those years. Everytime when I had a bad and hard day she always made me smile when I listened to her lovely voice in an interview video. Christian is like a hero and a true Idol for me.
I am a busy mom with four children and would love a little help to show my daughter how much I love her! She has worked extremely hard over the last four years to get into USC and I am so proud of her, but sometimes I don’t show it because of my focus on my three younger kids. She is the most wonderful daughter because of her love and help and she deserves an awesome room! She loves Twilight, so I know she will love to meet and spend time with Christian (she has been a fan of hers since Ned’s Declassified). I hope you can help me make my daughter’s transition into college as easy as possible with this awesome prize! Thank you!
I will be starting classes at SCAD in Atlanta, GA. I don’t have the money to buy all the necessities to get me by for the next 4 years. The only money I have to rely on is Financial Aid and grants, thank God for both or I could not attend college at all. My mom lost her job almost 2 years ago and I have attend junior college and worked a part time job just to help our family get by. But my junior college cannot fulfill my dreams to major in Fashion Design. So therefore SCAD is my only option for greatness. But worrying about a car that will get me back and forth from Florida to Georgia is really a hard thing to do. So instead of bed sheets and a pillow. My money will be going to a car that can hardly get me by. But everything doesn’t come by easy. Hard work and determination is what gets me by, everyday. This contest will be a blessing, and if I do not when even a new pair of bed sheets and a pillow would just be enough.
I support my daughter and know that she is on the right track of pursuing her dreams. I pray that you that one day she will be very successful. Love you Roniecisia.
MOM :)
I support my niece and hope that she becomes one of the top designers in the world. Reach for the stars,Neicy!!! The sky is the limit!!!
Show them the way thru higher education,I support Roniecisia Simmons in her desire for higher education. May God bless her with all she needs and may he allow all avenews to be open to her. She has my prayers & support.
I will be a sophomore this year and I am perusing my dreams to become a pharmacist (I have 5 more years of school left!) . To me, its more than just winning cool new things, its about making a home away from home for me–my own little oasis to help ease the home-sickness while I am at school. I pay for most things on my own and I would be more than honored to receive such a great opprotunity like this.
I went to boarding school for high school and am now entering my junior year of college. Since living away from home at the age of 14 I never felt like I truly had a room to call my own. Nothing really matched and it wasn’t decorated in a conducive way to help me study and relax as well. I always pay for my own belongings which limits me to the basic necessities of what is in a room. With this gift I would finally feel like I have a real bedroom for the first time in 7 years and don’t just live out of a suitcase!
I deserve to win this because my dad lost my job and it’s just been hard on the family =/
Winning this contest would be so amazingly helpful because I’m FINALLY moving away for college. I just finished my first year of college, I’ve transferred every semester, and I just turned 18 on Mother’s Day. I’m fully supporting myself, paying for my car, my insurance, phone bill, gas, and food. I hold down two jobs to pay for all this, plus any tuition that the HOPE scholarship doesn’t cover. I’ve been stressing about making enough money to pay for all my expenses AND my future rent. The money from this contest would definitely be much appreciated because every little bit helps!
I know that my story has been been heard before and some may have the same story to tell but here goes. I would be very greatful if i’m able to win this room make over, I am first in my family to atten college, my mom wanted me to have a better chance at life than she had, I currently entering my sophmore year in DSU, my mom has been struggling to make sure that my tuition is paid and that i have what I need for school, she recently lost her job in Sept. of 2010 and has been looking for a job ever since, currently she is receiving unemployment and is struggling to make rent and bill payments on time while trying to make sure that I have what I need for school, picture doing all this with unemployment. I would like to win this dorm room make over, so i can releive some of the stress and burden of having her to try and get money together to purchase these things. so I can live comfortable while i’m away at school, which i will be returning to in August, 2011. If I’m not selected as the winner, than I would like to thank you for the opportunity and I would like to congratulate the winner of this wonderful prize.
Peace and Blessings
Sorry I don’t have a sob story other than the fact that I’m at a cross roads in my life and have to choose to go back to school for a graduate degree because I was unable to find a job with my bachelors degree in aerospace engineering. I really could use the new furniture to help and inspire me with my new life path and rid me of all the negativity that my current furniture carries from the horrendous experience I had going through my undergrad and not being able to find a job afterwards. I def need a new start. And I will defiantly be donating my current furniture, with its 90′s loom gloom feel, to the salvation army if I do win the contest. Thanks for the consideration :) Positive outcomes only!
With Loves + XOXO,
Jonathan
I’m moving into a new apartment and could use the extra $ to jazz it up, twirl and sparkle motion.
I can’t stand clutter!
We just moved into the States from another country and me and my 2 siblings have to share a couch so i want to give them a new and beautiful room so they can be comfortable and be happy.. I hope to win..
I am going to be starting law school this fall. I currently live in NC and for school I will be moving to CA. A lot of what is in my current home will not be making this trek with me. The house I currently rent did come furnished so a lot is not mine. And the stuff that is will really just be difficult to move. I had planned on just over time adding what I could to my new home, however winning a spree like this could be a huge help. It would allow my new home to actually have some furnishings, which would make leaving my current home a much easier transition. By that I mean its hard to leave home and make sure my new home has that homey vibe would be great!!
This fall I will be sharing an experience like a million other teenagers out there. I’m going to college! yay! Unfortunately though, I need alot of a materials for my dorm and my mom just doesn’t have the money. I can barely afford to go to orientation, but it will be worth it once I graduate. I will be the first in my family to graduate. I would love to win this shopping spree with Christian. It will provide me with stuff that I won’t be able to afford. Winning this spree will be better. That way I won’t have to take out a loan for my dorm. I would love to win this, because I would love to feel at home away from home. The original question is “why do I think I deserve to win this prize?” I don’t deserve it. It would be a privilege to win, not a right.
I deserve a great living space because I’ve worked so hard for my living space as it is! At the beginning of last semester, my parents decided to stop supporting me. I had been living at home and was asked to move out. I got a job closer to school as a nanny and lived with a friend. Both fell through eventually so I moved in with another friend and got a job working at Subway. Not the most glamorous, but eventually I was able to save up enough to pay rent in a great house with great girls and my life is completely changed for the better. My parents and I are now on much better terms and will be paying for me to re enter school in the Fall.
I recently just graduated from my local community college and got my Associates degree!! This makes me the first person in my family to graduate from college. And after three years of saving up, I finally have enough money to move to a 4yr. college and finish up my bachelors. I live for pushing boundaries and defining who I am. Life is way too short to live it the way others expect you to. And regardless of where you come from, you are in control of what you become! Live as if your life is worth living, because it is! Having my dorm furnished by IKEA would be a complete blessing and I could not be more grateful!! Please consider me!
Next year I am blessed to live another year in my sorority house. The only problem is that mine and my roommate’s room is even smaller than the typical dorm room! I believe that with a better living space we would be able to achieve so much more! We would be able to come home to a calm space that would help us refuel in order to participate in the many volunteer positions we hold. My roommate is currently the president of our sorority and also works with children who are diagnosed with cancer through Dance Marathon. While I am a student senator and am also a member of a service fraternity. I feel that we both give a lot to our community and would love to have an amazing Ikea room to come home to!
I’ve been working two jobs my senior year, taking all AP/college classes and was apart of more than 4 clubs being president of one. I’ve had to pay bills, take care of my sisters, and deal with my parents issues for years. I’m attending UTPA in TX which has given me an hour escape from my home town. I want to be able to go on a senior trip with my friends but of course that cost money. I don’t want to be left behind because one my parents can’t afford to pay for it and two, me having to pay for my college . Having my room be paid for would be a blessing and a BIG weight lifted off my shoulder!! I haven’t had my own room in years and having it decorated where I feel comfortable and know I can get away from everything would be so helpful. I know being in college comes with responisblity and can be over whelming but for once I don’t want to have to worry. I want people to see how responisble I am and give me oppurtunities that other children receive from there parents or friends.
Hi! Am a transferring to the big city this semester and leaving behind my small town college with all my close friends I have made. It is a scary challenge I have committed myself to just so I can be at a art based school rather than my state school. I am super excited and love the thrill of not knowing what is out there for me. In addition, I will be living by myself in a apartment rather than dorms. I think IKEA would really help me settle into a new experience and life I have set up for myself. In addition to being a transfer student, I know my parents are going to have to make more of a sacrifice for me going to a private art school. My dad just left this beginning of May for his second tour in Afghanistan so he is already worried about me being alone in the city without him there to support me. Having a place to come home to after a day of school where can feel cozy, safe, and content would give me the boost of confidence I need for this leap of faith I am taking towards my future. Thank you for this opportunity!!
There are only a couple days left to enter, make sure you send this around and make sure you enter!
I would LOVE to win this contest!! I am starting my second year at Georgia State University in downtown Atlanta where everything is hip and cool except for my room. This makeover would make my city life experience complete! I also have been a fan of Christian Serratos ever since she played Susie Crabgrass on Nickelodeon! Between my serious need for a room update and meeting Christian, winning this contest would be the ultimate experience!!
I’m from a small town where not many kids go to college. I worked my butt off and am now at one of the top public universities in the country, as well as applying to dental school very soon. I think your room says a lot about your personality, so I think a room decked out in IKEA swag would show the world that I’m ready to start my future with guns a’ blazing! So watch out world, because I am one strong and confident young woman with no fear and plenty of drive and confidence!
I’m transferring to UCLA in the fall and I’ll be moving in with 3 other friends of mine (we’re all transferring as juniors together). We started the apartment hunt and have narrowed it down to a few places but none of them are furnished. They’ve got the kitchen covered, but that’s about it. I feel like it’s already a lot to ask my parents to help me with the cost of just attending the university, but to then ask them to help pay for my furniture, it seems like too much of a financial burden to put on them. Both of my parents were unemployed for 2 years before purchasing a small business which is barely allowing us to make ends meet as of now. I, myself, was recently laid off my job, and was just given 2 days notice that I was being let go (they informed me last monday that the following wednesday would be my last day, talk about last minute). I don’t want to have to leave it up to my roommates to furnish the apartment either because that would be asking for too much on their part as well. Winning this contest would mean the world to me. Not only would it help with the basic necessities of an apartment, but it would be a ray of sunshine to come home to after long days of classes and studying on campus. I’d be able to come home to a completely furnished and stylish apartment and just be able to relax in and appreciate without having to be concerned about how to pay for it all. Winning this contests would lift a giant weight off my shoulders.
I want to win this for my baby sister and surprise her with it! She totally deserves this because she is an amazing young woman! After getting waitlisted at both Syracuse and Pratt, her dream schools, she finally got accepted into BOTH! I knew she would but she lost a little bit of faith in herself along the way. She’s going to be moving all the way from San Jose, California to Syracuse in New York! Along with a new dorm, and a completely new wardrobe, she’s going to be facing a lot of challenges like being away from our family, her puppy, and her friends. A new dorm room would totally cheer her up and nothing makes me more happy than seeing that she’s happy! :) She finally wants to graduate from Syracuse with knowledge in Interior Design and what better way to start off her college experience than with a new dorm room! This would totally be a surprise to her as well because she has no idea I’m entering her in! I know that there are many other deserving people but my baby sister should definitely be considered! :)
I have had kind of a rough year. This is my first year living out of my parents house. My roommate and I met about 2 weeks before we moved in together and we get along SOOO well. We have done everything to try to get out house to be homey but it just isn’t. We will go to hobby lobby, walmart, and other stores and look at decorations for the house but we just don’t know how to make it work. We would love to be able to have friends over but out house just isn’t up to par. Not only are we interior design challenged but we have had problem after problem with our house. It started out okay; a small 2 bedroom with 2 dogs, (whom we absolutely ADORE!) I was fortunate enough to get the bedroom with the closet. My roommate however does not have a closet or a dresser, which is kind of hard to handle living out of a laundry basket. We don’t have a dish washer or a garbage disposal so you can only imagine how that goes. Most college students bring their laundry home, well I bring my dishes back home lol. Currently as of today, we do not have a working sink.(the kitchen sink is wayyy clogged, and our bathroom sink fell off the wall :( ). this makes my house sound really trashy, its not trashy just needs updating. We recently found another house to move into starting July 1. CANT WAIT! we dont want to start living in the new house and it turn out like the one we have. SO we could really use your help!!!!
My single mother of 3 cannot afford to send her first child to attend college with nice decor, and I know it kills her. I got through my freshmen year without a “homey” space and it was awful, making being away from home for the first time even more difficult. I would love to enjoy being in my room as much as I enjoy being in college sophomore year. However, living off a paycheck that marginally supports our family will not permit that. Yes I do work, but that money goes to pay the student contribution portion of my tuition. That is why I would love to win this amazing price. Not only would it be an amazing gift to me, but I know it would lift a huge weight off my mother’s shoulder.
Sorry, minor adjustments to my last post, and also reconnected with facebook :)

I am entering into my Junior year of college and will be living in an on campus house with 3 of my friends. I would love to have an IKEA shopping spree to make my house a place that I love spending my time in. This is because I have struggled against the odds and still maintained a normal and successful college life after multiple head injuries that were expected to slow my college dreams. In order to succeed against these odds, I need cozy and comforting places that never stress me out and always put me at ease in my daily life. Winning this contest would not only give me and my roommates a coveted townhouse, but also will aide in my successful college career despite my constant struggle with head and brain problems.
I will be going for my third year at a university. My first two year I stayed in dorms, but since it was really expensive and I couldn’t afford it anymore with my loans I decided that next to rent an apartment with two other girls and that way it would be less money and my loans could cover the rent. However, since I stayed in dorms and I did not have to worry about a bed, desk etc. Now my only concern is that if I move into the apartment I don’t have none of the things I need for my room. My plan was to work this summer, but it has being difficult to find a job. Therefore, if i win this contest it would be really helpful. :)
I am a sophmore at the University of arizona. I learned and struggled financially through my fall semester after realizing my mother broke her promise to me and that I would have to pay for everything on my own.Thankfully I was able to increase my work hours spring semester and have been able to learn from my previous mistakes.I am moving to an unfurnished this fall semester in order to save money but I need furniture because my new place isnt furnished and my mother has already said she will not give me my bed that remains at her new place.Im starting a new semester fresh and excited but I deesperatly need help with furniture because after moving fees I will be out of money.
I just finished my sophomore year at Yale University in Connecticut. My family lives in California and I’m the first one to leave home like this or go to a University. I’m on a pretty substantial scholarship (otherwise I could never afford an Ivy League education) but I’m paying for books, plane tickets and living expense out of pocket so my room was never really top priority. My parents couldn’t really help with move in (they’ve still never been my school!) and none of us really knew the process (or had the money) to buy what I needed for dorm living. After two years I’ve had to throw out a lot of the throwaway things I bought on the cheap when I moved in, my sheets, pillows, lamps, etc. I’d love to start from scratch and be able to get the things that could really make my room a home for the next two years.
I could write on here a lengthy description of myself, but what will really stand out? I’m 19. I’m attending college at FSU. I have a part time job which feels like a full time working over 25 hours a week, taking three summer classes, and working two internships at once. I don’t even have time to sleep in past 8:15 let alone sit on my furniture. Yet, I think that is what sets me apart. When I do sit on my furniture, I don’t want it to be this hard, springy mattress that I have to deal with. Or the desk that jams my foot every single time I’m running late out of the door with one slice of toast in one hand and my computer and keys in the other. It’s frustrating when you have furniture that just doesn’t work for you and even more frustrating when you yourself don’t know what to do with it. I want to make my home feel like a home, and my room feel like a sanctuary by the time I’m done with my day. I attempt to find comfort in my rocky bed at night and wonder, when am I EVER going to do something about this room. While on the go between my first internship of the day and my first summer midterm, I quickly skimmed this tweet posted by celebrity Whitney Port. I made sure to add it as a favorite so I could read up on it again late night before bed. So here I am, 1am and still observing this room, hoping it will change soon. I think this could be my chance to finally revamp my living style as I have so desperately needed. With the hustle, bustle, and stress for a young professional to have, I think that fixing my piece of room at the end of the day will award me some peace of mind.
My room back at home is still the same since about 8th grade and my freshman year in high school. Over the years I have never gotten around to changing the old pictures that I used to put up back when i was little or changed the pink overload that I did when I was younger.
Now in college at the University of Arizona I want to deck out my room to my personality now. With the amount of homework I have and the times that I need a break from college life, I want my room at college to express who I am now, a grown up woman not the little girl that was in love with pink. I want it to be sophisticated and laid back beach atmosphere to remind me of home. Ever since I was little I would go with my mom to Ikea and cut out pictures from a catalog to create my dream room. I never got a round to it, and now is my chance at school. I love my room at home because that is where I grew up; but I want to my school at room to be of me as a woman and my home away from home.
I moved to Los Angels in January from Sweden and are studying here. I would really need some help to decorate my room. I have only a bed right now and would really need some furniture to make it more like home. I live so for away from home so I would really appreciate to have a nice room to come home to, it would mean a lot to me!

I have finally acquired my associates degree in business. I begin classes towards my bachelor’s degree on June 17th in IT. I live with my sister and her 2 kids. Of course, we get our bills paid each month, but any extra money is reserved for the kids needs. So, the ancient furniture in my personal living space will have to continue to suffice. However, with this generous “shopping spree” giveaway, I will gladly accept this prize to provide a small, private, utopian sanctuary to study, rest, and find peace in away from the chaotic, warzone like, child infested environment that exists on the other side of my door. Thank you for your consideration.
