Listen Up! ‘American Idol’ Judge Randy Jackson’s New Artist: Grace K

On American Idol Randy Jackson may judge the competition, but even off the set he’s still hard at work finding new talent. That’s how he discovered Grace K, his new music act. Celebuzz had a chance to speak with the Russian-born beauty to turn the tables on Randy — how does she rate him as a producer? Plus, find out why she says she would NEVER audition for Idol.

But first, take a listen to her debut single, “When the Lights Go Down,” below!

What’s Randy like to work with?
I love working with Randy. The person he is on television is the same person in life. He keeps it real. He is inspiring, motivating, very kind and caring and talented.

Prior to your deal, had you ever considered going on a show like American Idol?
No, never. I love American Idol for its entertainment value, but it’s just not for me. I want my music to be a uniting force, not part of a competitive rivalry!

Who are your favorite artists right now?
Right now, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Trey Songz. But honestly, my favorite music changes all the time. Pop music is wonderful; it’s a never-ending stream of new, addictive songs to dance to!

Randy describes your musical style as “Madonna meets Britney,” would you agree?
I do agree with Randy. My music is fun and catchy, with playful lyrics and funky beats. And my fans tend to also be fans of Madonna and Britney. I’m a huge fan myself.

Are you single or dating?
I’m definitely single. I don’t have any time to date right now! I’m dedicated to my career. Music is my passion and the love of my life … Even though I grew up in Russia, speaking Russian, American pop music has always been my passion. I would sing to Michael Jackson not knowing the meaning of words. At age 4 I couldn’t take it anymore and I asked my parents to hire an English teacher so I could understand what I was singing.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?
[Laughs] I’d rather keep it a secret…

What other artists would you most like to work with?
I’d love to work with Nicki Minaj because I love her fierce sense of self, and Beyonce because her voice is unbeatable.

What is some of the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
To never give up the dream; work hard and believe in myself.
