The Meet & Greet: Disney’s Colin Ford — Matt Damon’s Latest Co-Star
Welcome back to Celebuzz’s Meet & Greet, where we sit down and chat with rising young stars of film, television and music before they hit the big time. Watch out for these future A-listers!
Colin Ford’s forte might be voiceovers for animated series, such as Family Guy and his hit Disney show Jake and the Neverland Pirates, but he is about to break on to the silver screen in a big way!
The 14-year-old star is set to appear as Matt Damon’s son in the upcoming film, We Bought a Zoo, and Celebuzz sat down with the up and comer to talk about working with the Oscar winner, how he got his start in acting and much more.
What is your favorite part of working on an animated series?
For Jake and the Neverland Pirates, I work with Jonathan [Morgan Heit] and Madison [Pettis] all the time, and we record together whenever our schedules allow. That’s one of my favorite parts, getting to work with everyone at the same time. We get to feed off of each other and it’s just a lot of fun.
Are there any similarities between your character, Jake, and yourself?
I think that Jake and I both like to be leaders. I can relate to him in that. Like when I play sports, I like to be the team captain. We both like to be good leaders to people.
What kind of stuff can we expect to see coming up on the show?
Tori Spelling will be on an episode in June. I don’t know how much I can really say, but it’ll be exciting.
You mentioned your favorite movies. Do you have any other favorite Disney characters from when you were younger?
I definitely think Buzz Lightyear is one of my favorites. Peter Pan and Tigger are up there too. I’m a big Disney fan, I even dressed up as Tigger for Halloween one year.
Who are some of the actors that you look up to or would like to model your career after?
Matt Damon has been one of my greatest influences. Sandra Bullock is someone I think is fantastic. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Reese Witherspoon, and I would love to model my career after her. Especially since she went to Stanford, because education is really important to me. I would love to follow in her footsteps.
What was it like working with Matt Damon on the upcoming film, We Bought a Zoo?
Matt was amazing. Scarlett Johansson was amazing as well. Matt was the most down-to-earth and nicest guy I’ve ever worked with. He’s just a great actor and person.
What are some of the most fun memories you took away from that?
This is just one of the best films I’ve had the opportunity to work on. Matt would bring his daughter who is in love with Jake, and the girl who plays my little sister also has a little sister who is in love with Jake, so on the set, I’d be known as Jake. It was pretty funny.
How did you get started in acting?
I was five years old when I started acting. I grew up in Atlanta and started doing some modeling when I was little. I auditioned for Sweet Home Alabama when I was 4, and got to work with Reese Witherspoon which was so cool. When I was almost ten, we moved out to Los Angeles, and I started working on projects ever since.
What kind of stuff do you like to do when you’re not working?
I like to play sports. I like to play football and basketball. I also run track. I also love music. Music is something that’s just really important to me. I like going to watch movies too. Very normal.
Do you have any hobbies that would surprise anyone?
I love going to the Disney park and collect pins. I probably have like 1,000 pins. I haven’t been able to go to the park and do pin trading in a while, but I’ll have to do it soon.
What other projects do you have in the works?
I’ll be finishing school, and then I’ll be auditioning a lot during the summer, so we’ll see what happens.
Speaking of summer, do you have any fun plans?
I hope I’ll be working. I definitely would like to take some sort of vacation or go somewhere. Somewhere tropical or somewhere with a beach.
