‘The Hunger Games’ vs. ‘Twilight’: What You Need to Know! (PHOTOS)
As The Twilight Saga comes to a close, The Hunger Games is just getting started! Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss on the cover of EW got Celebuzz staffers excited for the first film that is about to start filming in North Carolina, so we created a gallery of the similarities and differences between the two franchises.
We’ve all heard “The Hunger Games is the next Twilight” but is it really? Let’s take a closer look.
Aside from the fact they have insane fan followings- and Hunger Games is sure to be as much of a theatrical success- there are not a whole lot of similarities between the two aside from the main three-way love triangle.

You forgot the most important distinction…Jennifer Lawrence is a talented actress, while Kristen Stewart is NOT.

This manufactured franchise is sickening. It’s no Twilight. All of you nonsten haters that came to this board to hate on Kristen we know who you are. BTW, Kristen just won Best Actress for Welcome to the Rileys at the Milan Film Festival. Nominated & won a British Academy Award (BAFTA).
Unlike Jennifer who was one of many actresses thought of for her role in Hunger Games, Kristen was the only actress thought of and considered for Bella and Snow White. She had no competition.Universal, a major studio, said they only wanted Kristen for the part. Same with Catherine Hardwick. No other actress was considered for Bella unlike Edward where there were 3,000 actors who auditioned for the part. I don’t think there were 3,000 actors considered for all the roles put together for Hunger Games.
See the difference? Jennifer was given the role after several considerations, Kristen is the only one considered. Now, @annamorphos what do you have to say about that? Oh and BTW, they wanted Kristen for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but she couldn’t do it because of filming Breaking Dawn. So, that would have been another role. Oh, I forgot about On the Road. She was coveted for that role as well. She was the first actress they wanted for that part.
Now, don’t you look stupid. Kristen is given parts without consideration of any other actresses and Jennifer, Ms. Oscar Nom, is one of many who are considered for a role.
So take that and chew on it!
just because kristen was the only one considered for the role while jennifer was given several considerations does not make her a better actress than jennifer. also, why do you think she’s getting all these requests to star in all those films you mentioned? it’s partially true that they want to cast her because of her talent, but it’s almost certain that they want to cast her because of her big name, and they want to use her name to get their movie more recognition.
TO ALL YOU HATERS (both sides): you see, if you don’t wan’t anyone to on your favorite franchise, don’t start bashing the other side. both books are great in their own way so shut the f*ck up and enjoy the f*cking show.
I have nothing against Kristen, although I don’t particularly like her acting style, but the idiocy of your post is crazy. Just because Kristen was the only one considered for a certain part doesn’t necessarily make her a better actress. A big part of it means she has a bigger name and a bigger fan base (so far).
The fact that many actresses were considered for the role of Katniss means that Lionsgate is thinking about the fans and taking this movie very seriously. It doesn’t indicate that Jennifer isn’t as good as Kristen. A lot of HG fans had lists of their dream casts made and would have been upset if Lionsgate hadn’t been careful with casting Katniss. In the end though, Gary Ross said himself that she was “the easiest casting decision I ever made in my life.” and also “to Suzanne, Jen is the perfect realization of the character who is in her head.”
So maybe next time, instead of taking things at face value, you’ll think about what they really mean.
Personally, I’m excited for both movies and I can’t wait to see Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.

No, it is NOT the next Twilight, just because it involves a love triangle, because that is where the likenesses stop. It is SO MUCH BETTER than Twilight ever was, you see, The Hunger Games was written by an actually professional author, where as Twilight was written by someone who doesn’t even know her grammar. The Hunger Games features a kickass strong AWESOME female lead, that just dont give a fuck about sexist ideas, dealing with everything like a boss, and thinks she can do just fine WITHOUT any boys, since she is, you know, her OWN PERSON. Whereas Twilight, oh boy, Twilight features a female lead that singlehandedly stomps on everything people working for gender equality has done for like the last 100 years. Twilight’s female lead cant properly function without her boyfriend, she let’s him and other men manipulate the shit out off her, she doesn’t want anything for her life except staring into edwards goldenbrowntopazbronzeWHATEVER eyes forever. Katniss lives in a terrible world filled with war and hunger and fucked up shit, she sacrifices and looses so much and ENDS A FUCKING DICTATORSHIP.

The Hunger Games and Twilight series are VERY different creatures. Take the main characters of both series; Katniss and Bella, Peeta and Edward
Katniss is very strong, very independent, and she has no problem taking care of herself, even if it is without Peeta.
Bella is strong too and independent, but she seems to rely too much on the boys in her life.
Peeta and Edward are similar, both fight for what they love and would die for it. But, Peeta is attainable and Edward is unrealistic.
This leads me to what I think the biggest differences will be between the two series; the fans, especially the female fans. I think THG female fans will be a HUGE force to be reckon with, Katniss is a tough act to follow (literally). FYI – I am a HUGE Twilight fan and a HUGE Hunger Games fan!

Comparing the two – erhh great job Celebbuzz. We’ve heard it from everyone, how the Hunger Games is the next big thing but there’s only one problem. If any of you guys have read the Hunger Games books; which are amazing, you have to see that most of the actors cast are not really fit for the roles and are already well known in the business whereas Twilight actors and actresses were not famous and the films and books got their publicity because of the fans. And no I’m not hating on the Hunger Games, I love the books but I have to say I’m not looking forward to the movies.
* I love my Twilight but HELL YEAH, i’m down for some real vampires too, ones that don’t give a damn about animal blood, humans, and that don’t sparkle. Love my Twilight but……yeah.* =}

Twilight can beat the hunger games any day, because hunger games is just a competition with a tiny bit of romance. Twilgiht on the other hand has battle, romance, friendship problems and more. that’s what people are really looking for. Most people aren’t thinking if they choose the hunger games over twilight.
Hunger Games is a story of survival, revolution, standing up for whats right and doing what is best for the people you care about. Twilight says that nothing else matters, not even your family, as long as you get to be with your boyfriend. Hunger Games is much more than a “competition” its a fight for survival. Katniss cares for everyone around her, and is extremely selfless. All Bella cares about is being with her boyfriend, regardless of how she treats her friends, family, or the people around her. Frankly, its the other way around, people who say Twilight is better than Hunger Games are DEFINITELY not thinking.
Actually Ramona, that is not what people are looking for. Twilight’s action, is just other vampires trying to kill Bella. Twilight has no real plot. I read the first book, but I didn’t have to read anymore to know how the whole storyline goes. There was not one moment in Twilight where I felt like I had to read on. In fact, I found myself skimming through the pages just to get it over with faster. I really do not see how the friends or family fits into twilight either considering Bella hurts both for a boy when she is only in high school. And I also don’t know if you’ve noticed, but a guy watching you sleep through your window at night, is something creepy known as stalking which is illegal. Is that what you think people are looking for?
The Hunger Games however, can appeal to lots of different people. There’s action, adventure, family, friendship, politics, and yes there is romance but unlike in twilight, that’s not what shapes the whole story. Stories are not all about romance for crying out loud?! Also, how is fighting for what you believe in, being willing to sacrifice yourself for others, and showing people that murdering is wrong, sick? Twilight does not have any valuable life lessons as far as I am concerned. Not one. Twilight describes some of the characters as practically flawless and perfect. The Hunger Games has every character have problems. I really don’t appreciate people saying that The Hunger Games is going to be the next Twilight because they are two COMPLETELY different stories. It makes me mad that people ate treating THG as if it’s just another Twilight. Movies deserve credit without being compared to twilight! Twilight is not the base of the movie world! I can not wait until Twilight is completely forgotten.

Actually, you are so wrong. Let’s take a look at the heroines, for one thing:
Bella Swan: She has no flaws AT ALL except for being ‘clumsy’ which Edward finds ‘endearing’ so it doesn’t count. She’s also ‘shy’ but that’s really it. She has no goals apart from being with Edward and becoming a Vampire, rejects collage, a career, friends, her family just for edward. She acts incredibly stuck up and people love her for no reason. Has no skills apart from ‘reading a crapload of old books’ Constantly whines about all she’s been through but the only bad thing that happens to her is edward leaving her. Even when she’s in ‘danger’ edward saves her every freaking time. The closes she comes to sacrifice is a tiny self inflicted wound just to distract a vampire. Lame.
Katniss: A total bad-ass with a bow and arrow, thrust in to the position of bread winner by her father’s death and subsequent personal tragedy, loves her younger sister dearly and would do anything for her-like volunteer as a tribute which is practically a death sentence. Bella doesn’t lift a finger for anyone. Katniss can very much survive on her own both before and during the games, Bella jumps off a cliff when left on her own and makes no effort to defend herself when attacked by Laurent or whatever his name was. Katniss has the moral fibre, guts and pure bravery to defy the capitol by refusing to play by the rules of their sick game, bella’s to much of a wimp to even go to prom without being paranoid about people seeing her. Katniss loses (SPOILER ALERT: Skip to when I say “all clear” if you are reading the series and don’t want to know who dies) Rue, her dearest friend in the arena apart from peeta, Madge, Cinna, her sister, Finnick etc etc,(“all clear”) THe only “good person” that dies is some newborn in Eclipse you don’t even know. Katniss is the ‘mockinjay’ , the leader of the revolution by the end of the series. Bella is a vampire housewife married to Edward with a demon baby by the end of the series.

That “sick” story happens in real life. People are often made to do things that they don’t want to (like murder). And they are forced to face the consequences, even if they try to do the right thing. Hunger Games shows this in a more intense level.
Twilight is just a story about a girl who gets obsessive with her vampire boyfriend, gets married with him, and gets pregnant with his kid. If this happened in real life, they’d probably end up in divorce or totally unhappy, because nowadays, 18 is so not the age to get married.

Okay to all of you who are flippin obsessed with twilight…GET A LIFE!!! I read the first one but had no desire to move onto the second one and I saw eclipse but didn’t even have the slightest desire to see breaking dawn. I guess they gave me something to do but I could’ve easily picked something better of my bookshelf. Well that’s kind of off topic to what we are actually talking about here. JENNIFER LAWRENCE IS SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER!…at everything! She’s prettier and a far better actress! Plus she takes place in a story that’s actually interesting! The Hunger Games was the best thing I’ve ever read in my entire life! When I first saw the movie trailer it made me want to watch it over and over again! It gave you goosebumps and had such a dramatic feel to it! And Jennifer had Katniss down pat! She actually looked like she was Katniss taking Prim’s place, saying to Gale “There’s 24 of us Gale, only one comes out.”, talking to Peeta, comforting Prim, Saying goodbye to Panem with their hand sign, all that stuff! Plus she is able to have different facial expressions than just a depressed looking frown like somebody…*cough* *cough* (Kristen). And I think the only reason Kristen Stewart won actress of the year was simply because she’s a popular actress because so many freakos go over the top crazy for twilight. Without twilight, i doubt she’d be anywhere! The Hunger Games is going to completely kick twilight’s sparkling little butt and edward can go sparkle in the sunlight all he wants, jacob can poop in the fields and chase cars, and bella can go mope around or whatever it is she does. Also, i believe the only reason these two movies are being compared is simply because they’re popular. Simple as that. I got completely sucked in to the Hunger Games, I swear it is one of the most exciting books I have ever read. When I read Twilight I had to put the book down because I was so bored of Bella moaning page after page about the fucking hole in her heart or some shit. In some ways the movies are better as they cut all that out.
