It probably comes as no surprise that “the most common celebrity” (especially for lip enhancement) is Angelina Jolie.

Celebuzz talked to Dr. Sam Assassa from Beverly Hills Aesthetics, who says that while the super famous Hollywood mom’s looks are in high demand, “we always try to be realistic about whether it would fit with them.”

Dr Sam reveals what happens when a patient makes unreasonable requests, the most requested procedures for summer, and reveals the secrets behind his non-surgical facelift!

What do you do if someone wants something you really feel is not right?
About 15% of the people that come in ask for something that might not fit on their face because of their structure. It’s really hard to turn clients away, but I’d rather tell them the truth.

How do they generally respond to it?
There are a few that cry and really want me to do it, but we call those a “red flag” because their self-esteem is really low and they keep insisting that this is what they want.

You specialize in non-surgery practice. Can you explain the work that you do versus traditional practice?
Plastic or reconstructive surgery is surgery that restructures a body part. It involves cutting under the tissue and there is a longer recovery time. Cosmetic surgery is less invasive. There are minimal cuts under the tissue and the recovery time is only a few days maximum. There are fewer complications with that one. Plastic surgeons usually train with reconstructive surgery and then move on to practicing cosmetic surgery. People usually seek more cosmetic than reconstructive.

What are some of the non-surgical techniques that people come to you for?
My main interests are body and facial sculpting. There’s no cutting. We use needles and Botox. They are non-invasive procedures. We use special instruments that lift the face muscles with a minimal incision. It’s done with local anesthesia and it only takes a few days to require. The most important thing about doing this procedure is that you find the right candidate for it – usually people in their 40s or 50s that do not have too much excessive skin.

How long have these procedures been around vs. the more traditional ones?
The suspension lift has been around for about 15-18 years. I’ve been practicing it for about 7 years.

What are the most popular summertime procedures?
The most common ones are the laser hair removal and body sculpting. Our peak season for body sculpting is during March and April so that they’re ready by June or July. The body sculpting is basically liposuction that thins the waist.
