The Meet & Greet: ‘Kickin’ It’ Star Mateo Arias

Welcome back to Celebuzz’s Meet & Greet, where we sit down and chat with rising young stars of film, television and music before they hit the big time. Watch out for these future A-listers!

Celebuzz had the chance to go visit the set of Disney XD’s new show Kickin’ It (premieres Monday, June 13) and we think it’s time you readers meet the talented cast. The show follows a group of neighborhood kids who learn about life, karate, and just “how to kick it.”

Meet Mateo Arias, who plays tough guy Jerry. Hailing from Atlanta, Mateo and his brother both moved out to Los Angeles to act and currently split their time between the two cities. Mateo is fluent in Spanish and enjoys directing videos in his free time.

You guys look like you have a lot of fun together!
We do. We have a blast. We all get along so well!

What was the audition process like for this role?
I actually had auditioned for several Disney pilots before this one. I didn’t know what to expect. I did the audition and then got three callbacks for it. It was a difficult process, but I guess they liked me. I really wanted the role!

Any tricks to keeping your nerves down while auditioning?
It’s hard, but you just have to focus on giving it all you’ve got.

Can you tell us about your character?
My character’s name is Jerry. He puts on this really masculine attitude, but he’s a really sweet guy deep down inside. He’s the brightest one in the group.

Can you relate to your character at all?
Yeah, some parts!

Do you actually perform any of the martial arts stunts involved in the show?
I’m trying to learn them. I’ve done a couple of stunts, but I’m really trying to learn the stunts on my own.

What’s your ultimate career goal?
I would love to venture into film. I love doing a little bit of everything and movies would be great.

Who are some of your idols in the industry?
I love Will Smith. He’s great. Leonardo DiCaprio is amazing.

Who are your celebrity crushes?
I love Alessandra Ambrosio. She’s amazing.
