'American Idol' Alum Anthony Fedorov Talks New Single, His Past and Much More!
Since Idol, the singer has had several projects on his plate. He's been working hard on creating and producing his album, and has been part of the touring company as Joseph in The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. With six years since his appearance on the show, he is ready to give fans more of who he really is.
We caught up with him and asked him about his AI days, his dream collaboration and much more!
Your new single (You’re Perfect) comes out Wednesday, June 29th. What was your inspiration behind this track? I wrote this song based on my personal experiences. I wanted to write a song that when someone listens to it they feel good about themselves. For example, if was singing to a girl, I want this person to know that with all your flaws that is what makes you as beautiful as you are. I don’t think there is a better message than that.
Tell us a little about your upcoming album? It is a pop rock record with an interesting mix of Daughtry, U2, Coldplay -- all original songs I have written and co-written. It’s something I don’t think people will expect. Those who remember me from Idol think I will be just coming out with ballads, but over these last few years I have been doing a lot of growing as a vocalist and artist. My voice has grown into a voice that can sing pop rock music and I think people will very much enjoy it.
What are you most excited for fans to hear on your new album? I think the thing I am excited about the most is for them to get to know me as a writer, because that’s the one thing people don’t expect about me is the ability to write. That will be a pleasant surprise for them to see I am actually a pretty good writer! I am also excited for them to hear my new sound. The biggest compliment thus far is when people have listened to my album and they say they didn’t expect this. I am just really, really excited to see people's reactions. I think these songs are great and everyone who I have played them for has been impressed.
How was it working with Jimmy Greco and Russ DeSalvo who have both worked with such incredible artists like Celine Dion and Beyonce? Working with Jimmy has been such an incredible experience. He’s got a way with artists and people in general. He is an extremely talented guy, but when you meet him he is so down to earth and you would never know it. Both him and Russ have helped me find my voice in these songs. They have taught me so much and turned me into a better artist.
Who are artists you would love to collaborate in the future? I would love to collaborate with Pink at some point. She is definitely an incredible writer and I would love to work with my idol Marc Anthony. Marc has been my biggest inspiration and is the reason why I started singing in the first place. Also [former Idol alum] Chris Daughtry would be a great guy to collaborate with him.
You do a lot of work with the Sarcoma Foundation of America. Tell us a little about this and why it is so important to you. About five years ago my brother passed away from cancer. One of the songs on the album is called “Never Over," which I wrote about my brother while he was sick. I knew this song had to be on this album, which is dedicated to him. I have worked with the Sarcoma Foundation to help spread awareness. Sarcoma cancer isn’t as rare as people think. 20% of cancers as young children get are in fact Sarcoma cancers. I would say that these cancers get misdiagnosed often, and [that] happened to my brother. I urge people to get checked if you feel a lump. Make sure and check out curesarcoma.org.
Do you still keep in touch with the cast of Season 4? Yea, I still stay in touch with Bo [Bice] and Constantine [Maroulis] the most!
