Kathy Hilton Talks 'The World According to Paris', Michael Jackson and More!
Paris Hilton may be the most recognizable of the Hilton clan, but Kathy Hilton is stepping up and letting the world see a whole new side of her. Kathy, as well as her daughter Paris, are opening up about their personal lives and much more in Paris' new Oxygen show.
In addition to setting the record straight, The World According to Paris gives viewers an exclusive look inside the Hilton empire.
Celebuzz had the chance to talk to Kathy about the show, her sister Kyle Richards' show Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Michael Jackson and more!
You recently joined the social media world by signing up for Twitter. How have you enjoyed this so far?
Yes. It’s like a newborn baby. I’m checking it every two hours. I cannot believe how nice the people are!
Were you hesitant to jump on board filming The World According to Paris?
I wasn’t. I think our family has been through so much. When she asked me, I was quite flattered. I talked to Rick [Kathy's husband and Paris' father] and he approved. He was a little hesitant about opening up our house, but it was great.
What's the one thing you want viewers to take away from watching The World According to Paris?
It’s unlike other shows. You really are a fly on the wall -- whatever happens happens. What was great about it was that I am in the know about a lot of things before it gets out there, so I can get the reaction on Paris’ face. You get to see everyone going to a lot of different things.
Can you give us any inside scoop on what fans will be seeing coming up on the show?
The preview for the next episode was about putting weight on and pregnancy, but I can’t talk more about it. You’ll have to watch. You’ll also see the birthday dinner with the family and birthday bash.
She has created such a great empire and it’s great that you get to see a different side of her – the business side.
Exactly. You’ll see her in the board room. It’s like being with her all day and all night, cut down to an hour. She and I have emotional moments together. I get a lot out of her.
As we have seen on the show Brooke has been struggling with many issues from recovery to Charlie. How is she doing now?
She was sober for seven years. When she and Charlie had their showdown, it put her through a lot. She has definitely struggled through her addictions. I told her that maybe she could help someone by putting her story out there, but I can’t control what she says or does. Brooke says exactly what’s on her mind. The rehab moment was more intense than it was shown. I’m proud that she’s taking care of her problem.
Do you feel there are a lot of misconceptions about Paris?
I do. She’s a sensitive girl. I think because she has a famous last name people think she doesn’t do anything. She’s a workaholic and is very ambitious. She’s made some mistakes, but other people have too – it’s just not out there for the world to see. With this show, you get to know the real Paris. She does a lot for the underprivileged but doesn’t have a camera around for that like other celebrities do. I asked her once why she always walks with her hand on her hip and she said she does that when she feels insecure.
As many know, your sisters Kim and Kyle are on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Will we ever get to see you make an appearance on the show?
I think anything’s possible. A crossover would be fun. It’s up to the networks.
With the anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death coming up and in honor of him, I wanted to ask you what some of your favorite moments with him were.
My favorite moment with him would have to be when we were hunting for Easter eggs. One of the memorable times was him taking me to spend the day with Elizabeth Taylor. She’s my idol and reminded me so much of my mother. As kids, we would make prank phone calls and do silly things. He taught Kyle how to do the moonwalk when she was 4 years old. He was completely misunderstood. When he was at the Waldorf [hotel in NYC where the Hiltons lived], there were fans waiting outside in the rain with photos and I told him about them. He had a big meeting to attend but he signed pictures for them and even sent out an umbrella. That’s what he was like – so lovely. He raised beautiful, sweet children too. I will truly miss him.
You recently told Piers Morgan you are working on a ready-to-wear clothing line. Can you tell us a little about this?
It will be out in August. It’s called Kathy Hilton. They are beautiful gowns that are also affordable. Paris also has a consignment resale store called Paris’ Closet. Part of the proceeds goes to charity, so that’s wonderful too.
Don't forget to tune in to The World According To Paris next Wednesday!
