With his life on the line — literally — Jake Gyllenhaal may have a knack for stating the obvious as he hangs over a deep ravine and yells: “It’s pretty high!”

The action hero proves he has the real-life skills to pull off high-flying stunts on Man vs. Wild. In a new clip from Jake’s six-episode arch, he and host Bear Grylls traverse through Iceland, using a rope to scale over a canyon in a snowstorm. High above the abyss, Jake says, “This is one of those moments when you face your fear.”

How does Bear rate Jake’s manly abilities?

“”The wild is always very revealing — not only physically but mentally,” he says. “You’ve got to smile when it’s driving horizontal hail and be able to face your fears and just get on and do it — and on both of those accounts, Jake came up strong.”

The adventure stars Monday July 11, on Discovery at 9 p.m.
