Emily Osment Talks Online Bullying for New Film 'Cyberbully'

Emily Osment at Disney ABC Family Press Junket

You may know her as Miley Cyrus’ fun and carefree friend in Hannah Montana, but Emily Osment is serious when it comes to the problem of online bullying. Her new movie, Cyberbully, is a part of “Delete Digital Drama,” ABC Family’s campaign with Seventeen magazine to bring awareness to the cyberbullying issue.

Emily plays Taylor Hillridge, a high school student who’s pushed to the edge when she becomes a victim of online bullying while visiting a popular social media site. Osment, who fell in love with the script after reading it, has an important message for those who are bullied:

“You are not alone,” says the young starlet, “You can find help—talk to a friend, family, a teacher or an adult.”

With a strong support system like that, the ‘Lovesick’ songstress won’t have any problems dealing with bullies in college come fall!

But if you’re worried about missing out on new Emily Osment music—don’t! She assures Celebuzz that despite her commitment to pursue further education, she won’t be packing up her microphone—or leaving our TV sets—just yet.

“Hopefully, I’ll be able to do all three,” says Osment.

For now, you can catch this triple threat on Cyberbully, premiering July 17 at 8 PM ET/PT on ABC Family. Check out the trailer below!

I liked the movie but I think the ending could have been stronger. To all victims of bullies (online or in real life): my heart goes out to you. Don't give up hope.

Get your kids off the internet and outside. There are no cyber bullies on the playground or your backyard (just good ol fashion real bullies).

I also get bullied because I'm a huge fan of television shows from the 1960s/1970s/1980s and I'm only twenty years old.

I was bullied in school from the first grade all the way to my senior year and I hated it. Rumors were spread in the fifth grade that I ate fish everday for supper, I never take any showers and I have lice. None of that was and still isn't true. I get bulled online because I'm a fan of Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and the JoBros. Due to being bullied all of those years, I now suffer from mild anxiety and I have to deal with it everyday for the rest of my life. I'm stronger than ever but it still bothers me.

Sweetheart, teenage years are sometimes the hardest, though u feel as if nothing has helped please continue to move forward. Personally, I will keep you in my prayers and I am confident that in the end, you will come out on top please hang in there, remember that the beauty of going through something means that you are going through it you will not stay in it but you will get through it!!

I hope you know that you are not alone. There are people here and there who are there for you. While everyone cannot know all of the pain that you or your daughter may be going through, we wish you the best of luck in this terrible situation. Stay strong and don't give up the fight.

My daughter is a sweet 13 years old that makes straight A's and never gives us an ounce of trouble. She has been in the hospital for ten days now because of a cyber bully. Yes, she tried to kill herself. We had no idea she was hurting so badly. We are pursuing to find who did this and we WILL press charges. This is REAL PPL AND SERIOUS! My heart is totally broken. I am so scared for her....so many tears. We watched the movie. I could hardly stand to watch i'm so broken.

I am getting bulled in school&on the computer i have no friends&i talk to everyone i could but they don't stop i tried everything& tried making new friends but no one wants to be my friend. They made up so many lies about me. They even came to my house&tried to start a fight with me. People call me saying crap to me. This movie didn't do anything to help me. I tried all that but it doesn't work. Its just doesn't work that way when its real life not a movie

I'm sorry to hear that. Talk to someone you trust. I was bullied in middle school but never had to deal with online bullying. It's worse now. Don't think it'll go away. Just know it's not you, it's them. Bullies bully because they feel inadequate somehow, it makes them feel better to pick on others. Inside they are really weak. Most bullies are bullied at home. This problem is bigger than you and your bully. Hang in there :)
