Web Sensation Keenan Cahill Talks Surgery, Awards & 'America's Got Talent' Appearance
Who doesn't love a guy who can sing -- or at least pretend to?
16-year-old Keenan Cahill lip-synced his way to stardom on his popular YouTube channel, where he uploads videos of -- yup, you guessed it -- him lip-syncing to famous songs.
The worldwide web sensation has teamed up with stars like 50 Cent, Cody Simpson and even part of the Glee cast to shoot some of his videos, and a scheduled future appearance by teen superstar Justin Bieber has got him going nowhere but up.
Celebuzz had a chance to catch up with Keenan just a day after he attended the 2011 Teen Choice Awards as a Choice Web Star nominee to get the scoop on what he's been up to. So what's next for him? Quite a few things, actually.
You had a busy weekend. How were the Teen Choice Awards?
They were cool.
You have a lot of stuff in the works. What’s coming up with Sean Kingston?
His label emailed my manager saying that he really wanted to meet me. I was recovering from surgery and he sent me a gift and another email. We talked back and forth and tweeted each other.
What kind of surgery did you have?
My hip was out of its socket. They put it back in and straightened my legs. They put metal plates in and I couldn’t stand on my right leg for four weeks.
How long did it take you to recover?
They first week is supposed to be seven days of recovery in the hospital. I was on pain medication but by the third day I was out. It was about four weeks and I could stand up by the second.
How did you get around?
I could stand on my left foot and I had a wheelchair. The first day I could really walk, it felt weird. I was hoping I could be able to walk for the Video Music Awards this month.
Do you have a high pain threshold?
It’s sad to hear a 16-year-old say this, but I don’t really care about surgeries anymore. I recover quickly.
You also have something coming up with Footloose. What are you doing with that?
That’s still in the works, but it’s still hush-hush.
You’re also doing something with America’s Got Talent, right?
Yes. I’m going to be on America’s Got Talent on the 9th and 10th. On Tuesday, they’re going to have me on as a teaser for Wednesday, which is when I’ll be performing.
You were up for a Teen Choice Award. How do you feel about the results?
I actually met and did a video with Ariana Grande from Victorious yesterday. I didn’t win, but she said not to worry because a lot of people still watch my videos. She was nice.
Did you get a chance to meet Rebecca Black?
No, I didn’t.
Are you going to challenge her now?
I don’t know about that.
You have a lot of video views too, but they seem to be more on the positive side.
They are. When I didn’t win, people were still tweeting me that they love my videos, so that was great.
How do you deal with any haters?
I don’t listen to them. Sometimes when I tweet about a new video, I get people tweeting at me saying things like “Who Cares?” or saying they won’t watch it, yet they still follow me and take the time to respond. It doesn’t make sense. There are people that are haters, but they still watch the videos. Someone told me that the more haters I have, the more popular I am.
Sounds like Keenan Cahill has a good head on his shoulders!
Tune in to America's Got Talent on Tuesday and Wednesday at 9 pm on NBC to watch Keenan do his thing. We can't wait to see what song he has up his sleeve for his performance!
